I seem to be in a constant state of Buell repair this summer. First the motor mount on the S3T. Then the exhaust hanger on the S1W. Now the S1W is giving me fits again.

On my way to work this morning, it started to "sputter" like it wasn't getting fuel. It lasted a few seconds and then I was back at full power. Then a minute later it happens again and I seemed to loss power in one cylinder. I limped the 1 1/2 into work soundling like a Blast on steroids. I shut off the bike and immediately reach down by the header pipes. Yep...the front cylinder pipe is cold.

What should I look for in diagnosing the problem...
1) Fouled plug
2) Bad wire
3) Bad ingition coil (I'm running a single fire coil)

Other ideas????

Which bike? My S-2 would drop a cylinder when the circuit breaker was going bad, tach would show 1/2 speed when it did it's thing.
But I would check plug wires going into coil as they can corrode there and the wiring to the coil, along with plugs.

had similar issue with my s1w on crane single fire. front cylinder falling off under acceleration plus tach errors. ran smooth at 1/4 throttle. ended up putting the crane on dual fire and the stock coil back on. all fixed. awaiting delivery of new coil.
(check for fouled plug and bad wire first)

Okay...here's the quick down & dirty from the few minutes I had last night.

I have a strong spark on the front cylinder. I replaced the plug and it ran good for about 5-10 seconds. Then it cut out again. Here's the "weird" part...it seems to be forcing air back OUT of the carb. I'm guessing it has something to do with either the lifters or cams. Does that sound plausable???

I probably won't get too involved until sometime next week. I still need to finish buttoning up the S3T.

Thanks guys!!!

Run a compression check on the cylinder, could be a bit of debris stuck to the valve seat or the start of a burnt valve or the start of a cracked valve stem pocket/hole.
I hope I'm wrong.

Not trying to jinx myself but...

got the S3T back on the road yesterday. What should have been a simple (relative term for pulling apart the entire front top-end) fix became a long & drawn out process. I hoping to at least make it to October without any more repairs.

The S1W will be a winter project. I don't have the time or patience right now.
