"My 95 S-2 Signature Timing plate reads 95S2 249 382/1399
I'm assuming the 382 is the 382nd produced out of 1399, but what does the 249 mean?
I'm the original owner, mines Ice White Pearl."
Looking at the pictures of the timing covers above, I'd venture to guess that the "49" refers to "All The States Except California (cuz people out there are crazy and have to use the Quicksilver carburetor)". 
I'll have to check mine when I get home to see if it is the same...

Here's the info from my card and cover:
Year/Model....1995 S2 Thunderbolt
S2 Signature No.....95S2491365/1399
VIN No.....4MZRT.....3001365
Crankcase No....3395123005
Engine No.....RT11S001365
Build Date....06/12/95
From the plate:
95S249 1365/1399
I'm guessing the signature number that starts with "95S249" means '95 S2, 49 state (as mentioned above).
I only assumed the VIN number always equalled the signature series number. Is that not so? Hmm. Cool 
And Jerry - I think you inserted an extra "2" in there. Sure it doesn't read the same as mine (95S249) instead of 95S2249?
Oh. Duh. I just flipped my card over and it has a "Sample S2 Signature No." under the line drawing of the bike that shows where to find the engine no, crankcase no, and VIN no.
Year: 95
Model: S2
Engine: CA=California / 49=world
#/total produced: 1/86 (The sample shows a Cali number, I'm guessing 86 Cali bikes in '95?)
Another neato bit on the bottom (gotta read the fine print):
"If purchasing a previously owned Buell motorcycle, please write to: Buell Distribution Corp. c/o Marketing Dept, 3700 W. Juneau Ave, Milwaukee WI 53201 for registration and information update."
...maybe I should give that a shot, see if I get me a nice letter in *my* name instead of the first owner....LOL.
And, frontside fine print under the VIN, crank, engine no.'s and build date info:
"Verification of these elements certifies the motorcycle as one of 2,147 produced in the 1995-1996 Buell S2 & S2T Signature Series." |

As you can see, some of the information is missing, some of you didn't tell me the color or status of your signature series timing cover.
POPCHEVY=if your still out there, we don't even know what year your bikes are, or whether or not you have the timing covers.
