My "new to me" 2001 S 3T has the 3-D Buell tank logos. They have raised lettering on plastic pieces that look like they are glued onto the tank.

I would like to remove them for a smooth clean look but I am not sure how to do so without damaging the finish on the tank.

Would "Goo Gone" or penetrating oil work?

An advice or recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave

Mine pulled off without messing up the paint underneath, but the bike was fairly new when I did this. Perhaps heating them with a hair dryer (carefully!) will soften the glue up a bit.

I really, really love the way the tank looks without the letters on them. I had planned on putting them back on when I got the tank repainted, but the contours of the tank really stand out without them. You'll see gentle, pleasing bulges and curves in areas that weren't quite apparent before. I love the look.

Plus, it makes the bike even harder for the uninitiated to identify.

Use unwaxed dental floss.
It worked for me.

Heat em up, peel em off.

Yup, Mine came off with no problems at all with a hair dryer.

It was 7 years old and 20k miles, yet they didn't leave a mark in the paint underneith.

Bluzm2,

The dental floss worked method worked perfectly!

It cut the rubber cement like a saw so I could just pick them up to remove them.

A little "Goo Gone" cleaned everything and it looks great.

Thanks for the help.

Happy to be of service, that's what this board is all about.
