Well, I just bought a 2001 S3T from the original owner with just 675 miles on it. I seems to run well but I have a few questions. What is the best way to set it up to run at its best? I have heard of using the race ECM unit, slip-on exhaust, power commanders, etc. My goal is to improve power delivery and throttle response and reduce operating temperature resulting from lean operation. This is a really cool bike and I expect to have it for a long time so I am willing to put some effort into getting it to run as well as possible Any advice would be much appreciated. |

There is so much info in the Knowledge Vault... but here is what I have on mine: Race ECM Gutted Airbox Re-routed Breather tubes Vance & Hines Slip on Headers Wrapped to help with the heat I also purchased the VSDT (?) software so that I can do my own Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) Reset and troubleshooting. My bike runs like a champ, I know there are others that have theirs running faster, but I have no complaints...I love my S3T. Good Luck, welcome to the addiction...it is an addiction!!! Get a Factory Service Manual and a Parts Catalog for your year...it is a big help. |

There is also a lot of good reading at the "X1 Files" here http://www.saintjohn.nbcc.nb.ca/marriott/x1/ |

Essthreetee, That reference was exactly what I needed! I know that my "new" S3T is going to be a great motorcycle for me and the information you have compiled will be extremely helpful. Thank you very much. Dave |

You may want to remove the lower right fairing bolt and replace it with velcro. This will take care of the cracking problem that some of us have had. Mark |

I have also switched over to a Corbin Seat...I know there are some on here that are not too happy with theirs, but I find it VERY comfortable. It gives me a little extra leg room and I like the "Good Saddle" feel. I have also switched the stock windshield for a...a...dangit, I forgot the name, but it is a slightly taller one. I have also removed the clock in favor of an Oil Temp gauge...just to keep an eye on what is going on. hmmm...what else...I absolutely lust for my S3T...I almost made one of the biggest mistakes in my life not too long ago...I am sure glad I decided to keep it. Just in the mood to type today, I guess... |

FYI - Keep your clock, the white faced ones are valuable as Buell no longer stocks them. they sold for $52 new, but I have seen them go for much more then that on Ebay. |

Essthreetee, I am interested in the oil temp gauge. Can you tell me which one you are using and where I might get one? Also, where did you mount the sensor? What is your opinion of the value of an oil pressure gauge on this motor? I have experience with Triumph twins where the plain-bearing crank needs good oil pressure to survive but I have no experience with roller cranks. (On my 650, I keep track of oil temp by touching the oil tank periodically and the oil pressure gauge is my most important instrument.) I just ordered my workshop manual and parts manual so I can get acquainted with my new S3T and I spent much of last night reading the information you passed on yesterday. So far it looks like the ST3 will be with me for a long time - like my other bike which has been part of me for 37 years now. Thanks again for your help and advice. Regards, Dave |

Dave, don't know if any of this is what you are after, but it may be a good place to start... http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/21/ 291440.html?1184152507 I have no affiliation with this person, but I was reading it and thought of you. Jason |
