Why don't you post one of those pics you are talking about. There are a couple variations of the supertrapp. Make sure we're all on the same page.

I think I figured it out. The pic I saw was of the megaphone style, it was so close up I couldn't tell at first. I have the new style IDS w/ the welded elbow, looks an awful lot like yours Rag.

Thanks all,
It looks like I've got a race cap on the inside with the open outer cap. I'll take some pics this weekend while I add some discs back in.

One more thing. What do you guys think would give the best combination of sound and performance. 18 discs w/ race cap, 18 discs w/out race cap or 12 discs w/ race cap? I want loud and deep but not to the level of Force or D & D. Ideally it would be fairly quiet at idle and tolerable until about 3K rpm's. Thanx

"War" Depending on your bike(and tastes) that final combination will have to be determined by you with a little experimentation.

I am interested in using a Super Trapp on my 2001 S3.

Does anyone know what model/part number should I be looking for?

Also, would appreciate any recommendations regarding a "Buell friendly" vendor where I might purchase one.

Thanks,

Dave

war, just go with 21 and open race cap. nice sound at idle and beefy up in the rpm's. no regrets what so ever. dave, you can call americansportbike and everything i've heard from people on here so far tells me their good people to work with plus i think you can get a discount. i use my daughter works for a dealer so at least i have that option for right now for getting a good deal on parts when i'm in town. out of town right now though.

dan, i think you were just trying to be the perfect gentleman and not making me look bad in front of the wife. besides, anyone who can pull himself out of a bad wheelie like you did at the gap, couldn't be that bad of a rider. myself, i'm better off not trying anymore.

I was hanging on for dear life behind you (and the wife), Neil. As far as any skill keeping me from being tossed on my face from that wheelie... that was pure luck, buddy!

Neverenuf,

I just looked at American Sport Bike and they have the latest SuperTrapp. Looks like they have some other things that would be nice on my S3 too. Now I'll need to give my checkbook a tune-up.

Thanks for the advice.

Dave

21 discs with the race end cap is the ticket for me although i was trying to ride over to huntsville alabama when the oil light went on and when i had a chance to stop it was tapping really bad. so right now i'm down for the nine count and with the other bikes back in tampa i'm jonesing pretty bad. make it work though, you won't be sorry.

The only con I have is that mine shoot itself to pieces. I don't know how many miles were on it before I bought it, but I'd put 4k on it by the time I was afraid it may fall of the bike. I had it welded back together, but now the weld is starting to show surface rust. Anyone have any idea how to combat this?

is this the newer version(one piece) or older one(two piece) if it's the older, don't bother. new one, make sure you get someone who really knows how to weld stainless. using the gas and all.

It's the old, one piece, megaphone version. It's already been welded, and evidently the guy didn't know much. It's ugly as hell, but you can't see it unless you look under the bike. So other than telling me what I should have done, anyone have a suggestion as to what I could do now?

Well, for now it will be 18 discs plus race cap. I have 12 w/ cap in now and it sounds pretty good. I polished up the headers, by hand, and noticed a reduction in heat. Right leg no longer roasts in traffic w/ shorts on. Not to mention, they now have a beautiful glossy gold finish. For now all is good. For kicks I go to the local Jap/Ducati dealer, I park away from all the other bikes , go inside and look thru the window. It's amazing how many guys walk over to check out the X1. And why not, it is by far the best looking bike out there. I also notice that there are 3 of everything. Hyabusas, Ninjas etc. I love the matching race suits, boots, gloves etc. Those guys are always good for a laugh.
