I noticed this awhile back. Is this normal flex? Everything appears to be very solid right now, so maybe a bearing or isolator went out with the previous owner and it did this?

Whatchya think?

That ain't right - there shouldn't be any contact. It's all from the PO, right? It kind of looks like something external hit it - perhaps a slipped jack?

Hmmmm...With my untrained eye, it looks like those scratches don't match up with the tube across from it. Maybe you kicked up a rock and it wedged between there and that did the damage.

...is there any corresponding damage to the inside edge of the tube at that point?

The inside of the pipes don't feel rough at all.

A jack! That could almost make sense! That will be my conclusion for now! Thanks!

Mike
It looks like something was caught between the frame and swing arm while it was moving. Don't ask how I know.

Well, there's similar marks at the exact same point on both sides of the swingarm. So the jack thing makes sense.

Yup, a lot of us will put the back end up using jacks under the passenger pegs. I have similar marks on my swingarm though not nearly so bad. When I saw it was making contact I adjusted the jacks...
