$225 and $900+ are two very different numbers, which is why I will have my Showa rebuilt as well.
A thousand dollars is a lot of overtime (I won't pay interest on what I consider a luxury item.) That said, when I have the money saved up I will buy a better shock, but having a working vehicle is what lets me put in the hours I need to in order to put more money into suspension, fuel, slick transmission parts...
Thanks to all for the interesting thread (especially for the race tech links Karl), I have a blow shock since the race track and have been considering my options. American Sport Bike has both Penske and Works listed on their site. Wish I had a grand to spare but oh well... |

I stand duly admonished by Bad_karma. He is completely correct. If no one tries the rebuild we will never know if all those shocks in the garage, including mine, are worth anything. Please let us know how the rebuild goes. |

Admonishment was not meant, sorry. I believe you are honest and that will insure that I scrutinize the evaluation more closely. I just have a basic mistrust of data provide by parties that have a fiscal interest until I'm satisfied of their integrity. It is this orderly presentation of opinions that make this forum a valued tool. It would be nice to have some data recording equipment, factual evidence would help the evaluation process. When these bikes where new they where amoung the top handling bike on the road, and in the most part still are. I feel the equipment, if repairable should be able to provide this level of performance again.

I am currently researching this subject, since one of the shops I'm affiliated with has a shock specialist who says he can rebuild my 2000 rear shock. His questions to me are how much nitrogen pressure to put in for a 160 lb rider, and what weight of oil??? Anyone have any input???
