While cleaning my 2000 X1 this afternoon I noticed a vacuum nipple on the bottom of my throttle body with nothing attached to it. What is this used for? If it isn't used for anything shouldn't there be a cap on it?

I believe it was for the California model carbon cannisters. Yes it should be capped. You'll probably notice a change in idle speed and have to re-adjust. It may run a little richer until the ECM re-learns the AFV.

I had complained to three different dealers about how my '99 S3 ran when it was cold and at slow speeds. All three said "That's how they all run".
When I decided to replace my intake gaskets after 3 yrs. and 30,000mi. I found my cap missing too. It made a big difference in the cold operation of the bike.
Needless to say, I do all of my own maintenance now.

I haven't really been having any major issues with the way the bike has been running but it does seem to idle sort of low in the morning and smells pretty rich. I have plugged the port off so I will see how it runs in the morning.

It seemed to start and run this morning a little easier. The exhaust doesn't smell as rich as it used to. I was hoping it would cure some of my running problems below 3000 RPM but I really can't tell that it is any better.

I guess I will just accept the fact that it's just part of the Force experience.
