I am looking for some advice on saddle bags.

I have a 98 s3t with factory hardbags, the big ones.

I know this may sound blasphemous, but I really don't preffer the way they look and function.

I was wondering if some of the newer style Buell bags would fit, like the XB or lightning bags?

If not those, are there any that would?

Thanks.

While I originally thought I wanted hard bags, I'm glad my 99 S3 didn't come with them! it is much sexier without them and I just throw on some expandable soft bags when needed!

I'm happy to have the big bags when I need them. But 80% of the time, my S3T is ridden w/o them (nekkid!)

If I had the narrow lids, I'd probably use them for most of my riding.

Just ordered the Coretech Sport bike tail and saddle bags, gonna take them on a trip through Southern Utah this weekend, I'll let you know how they were. The catalogue photos actually had them mounted on a S3, looked pretty good, I'm just hoping they will fit my S1 tail.

Got the super mini tank bag too, it's got a nice soft neoprene base instead of the magnet so many bags have...

Went to pick up the bags I ordered today, they were huge! I could not adjust the top straps enough to keep the bags out of the wheel and there was nowhere for the turn signals to go, I had to fold them back or adjust the straps long to let the signals through between them. Really a bummer.

The bags aren't really that big, the are pictured on a S3 and look pretty good but the S1 tail is so small they just don't fit.

Guess I'll have to try and find some used bags spec'd for the S1...

Tank bag is nice though.

little buggles, what color did you get in the cortech bags, and did you get the sports?

If they are black, and you can't return them, I might be interested in buying them if you are selling them.

I have a set of wide lids, but never use them. As practical as they may be for long rides, it looks like a fat-bottomed girl with them on. Couldn't live without the bags, though. Fortunately the slim lids get the job done 95% of the time.
If you buy some, make sure that they are pre-99 for your bike. There was a minor change in the hinge design in '99.

Mike,
I have the Buell Saddle bags for my S1. They are small. Look like the sport bike bags being offered on the market. They don't hold much. With the tail bag you can get enough to make it for a weekend. That is the reason I have an S3 with those large bags.

Joel, sorry to disappoint bud, but I walked those bags right back into the store. They were really pretty understanding when I showed them the fit. Otherwise they'd be up for sale for sure. They were the sport bags, (so those of you shopping, even the sport bags are too big for the standard S1 tail, can't say anything about the twin tail though). Slick paint by the way, your bike looks really sharp!

Joe, All I wanted was to pack a weekend's worth of stuff, just getting tired of using a back pack when I ride, shorts spare t-shirt, running shoes and a few other odds and ends don't make too huge a bag but I would prefer to just wear my hydration pack... Let me know if you ever want to sell the S1 bags? You also have a nice profile pic, I should post some of mine from my track day but am pretty happy with the current photo...

I'll probably post a wanted ad before too long, I think for now though I'll take this as an opportunity to finally pay off my credit card!

-Mike

Oh, sorry if I've hijacked this thread, I tend to do that...
