I have just started to experience a strange viration that is present at all engine speeds but seems most noticable below 3000RPM. Checked rear belt tension and is properly loose,IE: some delflection at full suspension compression, primary chain tension is good, not tight and primary shoe intact. Front isolator intact and bolts to front cylinder head tight. Bike only has 14K on it. Clutch basket ins't wobbling as though the bearing was bad. I have heard of issues from the strange spacer plate in the middle of the clutch plates. Suggestions would be appreciated. | ||

How old are your isolators? Another thing to consider is your isolator tie rods--they are a wear item and can/do go bad. | ||

Based on the fact that your bike is a 98 S1, I guess that it's the rear isolators. There was an upgraded isolator that is much improved from the one used in 1998. | ||

Check your exhaust hanger. The front to make sure the muffler isn't touching the bracket and the rear hanger for loose bushings. On my bike the exhaust sends vibes into the footpegs. Also I just changed my spark plugs and the bike runs much smoother. The spark plug vibe was mostly felt in the throttle side of the handlebars | ||

Bike has 14 K on it. I haven't noticed anything abnormal when it is idling. Plugs are new. Exhaust is Force and is rubber mounted. I will check the manual for test criteria for the isolators. Looked closely at front upper one. No cracks found. I know that this part has issues. Thanks for the suggestions. I will keep looking & post if I find anything. | ||

I agree on the exhaust tract suggestion. First thing to indicate an issue with loose or failing exhaust parts is peg vibes. Been there done that enough times to know. My Cyclone eats exhaust systems for lunch, literally. | ||

Interesting observation. I just put the Force pipe on less than 500 miles ago. Bought it on Ebay with the classic Force front crack. Cut the bracket off & welded up the crack. Used the rubber mount that came with in the front with a stainless steel clamp. Everything looks OK. Pipe isn't shaking independent of the motor | ||

Hats off to those that said exhaust! I crawled under Frankenbike and found the rear mount solidly attached to the pipe and nothing else. Put on a new nut and some locktite and off I went with only the normal shake rattle & roll that we tubers love so much. thanks again for the help. | ||

I like to know when I got something right. Figured I would extend the courtesy. It is great to be able to pic the brains of others who may have solved your problem before you knew it existed. |
