Okay, any hints or tips or warnings on upgrading the S2 headlight to the removable bulb version? I've already got a removable bulb and glass enclosure/housing/bulblessheadlight (thanks Jim), just looking for what to do that might not be obvious. I assume I'll have to pop the fairing off and unplug a bunch of stuff (or let it dangle). This will give me a reason to lube the speedo cable and probably change out the front engine isolator at the same time since I'll have some of the stuff out of the way to do that easier. I think I know where my service manual is, I think (got a house guest storing stuff at the house so some stuff got shoved out of the way).

If I think about it I'll post pics of the process (pretty sure I know where a camera is and probably some batteries for it).

Also, any suggestions on what to use for a bulb in case I decide to try something different or brighter?

Thanks for any input.

Came up behind a car on the way in this morning and noticed I didn't have a headlight on in the reflection, low beam worked, high beam didn't, dang, oh well.

Remove fairing--turn signals come off and mirrors, headlight held in with springs and ?? probably have to open hole to rear IIRC as bulb etc is fatter than stock sealed beam.Only need to unplug headlight and signals.
Get the brightest sucker you can find.Don't remember what he had but Don Casto had one in his S-3 that was unreal.

Thanks. I do know where the Dremel tool is for hole enlargement.

H-4 quartz halogen bulbs are available in many powers & colors.

Note, that 55/60 watt, low/high ( or 60/55, depending on marketing speak ) is the legal maximum in most ( all, I think? ) states. More powerful bulbs are for "off road use only". Caveat emptor. Color's other than "white" may be illegal.

Legal issues aside, power is good, till you melt wires or run down your battery. I've done both, on old Suzuki's. I suspect you're good on a S-2 to 100 watts or so. Add an electric vest, or grips, and you might have issues. Please jump in anyone who's expert on Buell electrical systems.

Color. I personally hate blue bulbs. It wrecks oncoming people's night vision, and doesn't help yours. Bluer light will close down the pupils, more than redder hue's. That's why Sub's & planes traditionally go to red lighting at night to preserve night vision. Red/pink lights invite police attention, and you give up sharpness in vision. So, I'd keep near white. Slightly hotter ( blue ) or cooler seems to be ok.

I'm running ( off road only, of course! ) a Luminitics JDM Yellow 2500K 130/135W H4 in my S3 headlamp. ( on my M2 ) Lots of light on low, REAL ballsy high. I like the color for riding, seems to open the
pupils, compared to white. I also like the look, but my bike is Reactor yellow. So far, no Imperial Entanglements, & I try not to flash my highs at police.
