I'm glad you guys like the look of it. Thanks to Erik, these are beautiful bikes. They're destined to be classics. Like a two-wheeled AC Cobra.

Anyhow, to return my track bike to the street I wanted something a little different. I've been riding big dual sport bikes for the last couple of years and am completely sold on the advantages of dirtbike or supermoto style ergos for street riding. Upright, tall in the saddle with lots of cornering clearance and a nice, wide handlebar. Just like Erik's new XB12S TT.

So I took my track bike, which was already raised in the rear (with a front shock mount I'd modded to increase cornering clearance and quicken steering geometry) and lowered the S2 spec WP Romas (which are 1.5" longer than the S1's stock WP forks) in the triple clamps to raise the front end a similar amount.

The resultant ride height suits my inseam nicely (I'm nearly 6'3"). The original S1 bar, which mimics a flat track racer's, places you in a neutral seating position with hands comfortably far enough apart to provide a confident hold on the front end's activities. I like it.

This view shows the modded front shock mount:

Here you can see the WP Roma forks mounted flush with the S1's top triple clamp. If you look closely at the fork below the lower triple clamp you can see the witness mark from where the forks were previously mounted for track use.

WP Romas

I'll probably experiment with front fork height or adjust it to suit riding "situations". Presently, it approximates the stock S1 geometry of 25 degrees, at a measured 24.5 degrees of rake. Which should see the trail pretty much stock, also.

Haven't ridden it yet. When I get a new battery and get the bike replated I'll let ya'all know how it worked out!

Pretty nice...subtle, and clever.

Why no more track use?

How much better are those S2 forks?

Heya Bake,
Something strapped to the shock? It's a Works Performance shock and that's the remote reservoir strapped to the left frame rail. Is that what you mean? As regards the green oil filters: Volkswagen spec Quaker State $4 on sale at Cdn Tire. Drives the Harley guys nuts. I love it. : D

Thanks Court, and glad you like it. Will have to drop into NY,NY to see how things are looking in your part of the world.

Rick_a,
How's tricks, amigo? The WP Roma forks are an improvement in ride quality over the stock WP's (which are pretty nice to begin with). Having said that, a bit of work/experimenting with spring preload and fork oil viscosities would get the stock WP's working pretty nicely, too. No more track use is sort of a personal/health related issue. My cardiologist might kill me if he knew I was tracking a bike at Mosport. : D He already jokingly made the comment "Why are we even giving you Lipitor?" when he found out I ride motorcycles. I don't have the heart (no pun intended : ) ) to tell him about the track habit.

I'm bummed, man. I've had my bike apart for two months waiting for a swingarm to get righted click here and here.

I know some prefer those forks due to having more adjustment range than the later forks. The later ones sure are simple to work on, though. I Race Tech'd mine with springs and Gold Valves and got lucky...it works great. I did the shock, too, but the results there were less than stellar.

Sorry to hear about your health issue. That's gotta be tough.

You were an expert racer? What series?

I did, after calling several well known race shops. They all told me it wasn't worth modifying; that it is junk, basically. Race Tech would do it but charged a lot for labor. After rebuilding it I found a local shop to re-charge it. The only time I found it lacking was at the track. I just need more track time to get it adjusted properly. It's the low-speed damping that needs work and that's adjusted externally...if there's enough adjustment range and the high speed damping isn't affected too much.
