I had a nice cold, wet, snowy 150mi-run this saturday. Sunday morning when I started the bike to come back home, I ended up with a fouled rear plug. Cleaned it up and got it running again.

Rear plug is black, way rich, compared to nice brown for the front. Looked at the last set that I replaced and it is the same, rear is black, while front looks good.

I replaced the intake seals less than 1000 miles ago.

Any comments/suggestions?

Eric

stock ignition? or aftermarket? if aftermarket, most have an adjustment to advance or retard the timing of the rear cyl to fix such issues....

this may sound stupid, but r u running matching plugs? same heat range?

Eric:

What plugs and jets are you using? My experience has been that front and rear will not look the same.

What looks rich maybe oil, The rear cyc is hotter so usually its the first to leak. I mean leaking valve guides or worn out valve guides.

Spray brake parts cleaner around intake. If motor responds to it alot than thats a leak in the intake.

Whats compression test look like?

Jets: the KV suggestions. Low speed 42, screw 2.5 turns out. Main 190.

Bike has less than 9,000 mi, I hope it isn't wearing that much already. Could it?

Did that when I replaced seals, BUT I should try again, maybe they shifted?

Haven't checked.

I'll check the intake seals again tonight so I can rule that out completely.

Depends on how it has been abused I guess. I have read a coupe people talk about a top end rebuild possibly around 10 k. Harley states whenever performance has gone south and things out of spec.

You might want to check your enrichner and make sure the valve is closing all the way and that it does not back out when you are riding.
