Hi,

I'm looking at buying a mint condition 1998 S3 Thunderbolt with the original screen on it. I have seen a few fitted with an X1 style screen and headlight and like the look better(can't find a reasonably priced X1). How hard/ expensive is this conversion and where would I get the parts apart from original.

I did that to an S3 in 2001. I bought the headlight brackets from the dealer. They're about $17/ea. The headlight and flyscreen came from ebay. Just as a reference, the headlight is the same one used by BMW & Ducati. I've found they're cheaper if listed that way. You'll need to either get an S1 dash and "flip it" or make a custom piece. The guages on pre-99 bikes are smaller than the 99 & newer. Lastly, you'll need to change the headlight plug. They're not the same as the S3.

Overall, its an easy conversion. I'll try to find some pictures of the completed project. I've since cannibalized the motor to build my S1W.
