Is the s1 and x1 seat and tail section the same length or is one longer than the other and would a X1 tail mount to my S1.

Isn't the X1 a polished bolt on aluminum tail section?

yes the tail section is cast as one piece with the other stuff bolting on.

They have a painted brushed finished with a thick clear coat when new.
some are a little porous I had mine soda blasted and it was so badly pitted after that I had to have it coated metalic silver rather than clear,

NOTE: Cast aluminum "out gasses" some times when powder coat is applied. My tail section has some small flaws near the logo
due to out gas,

Jim, the pitting the wasnt due to the media blasting, but, the nature of the cast itself.

My tailsection is pitted STILL, though, I took ALOT of material off.

I have done 2 99 and up swing arms, and one of them was perfect, and the other one(the most recent I did), I had to make do, as I was taking ALOT of material off...

With cast, its kinda like luck o fthe draw..

Out-gassing can be mitigated to almost nil with the right prep, though, I wont discuss that on here, as, thats how I make my money

But, it is dificult, and while it can be mitigated, it isnt always 100%.

So, cast aly SUCKS

Anyways... to answer the questions asked..

The X1 tail is longer, especially if you have the Solo tail, The twin tail is longer, but still not quite as long as the X1..

And if you are looking for "Bolt On", no, the X1 tail will not work. The S1 subframe is part of the frame, thus, welded. The X1 subframe, is bolted on(as mentioned), and, physically the same width at the mounting points, as the frame in that area. Thus, you will need to weld tabs to the frame to make it work.

Now, IF you can/are willing to go that far, there is asthetics issue with the seat to tank mating...back of the X1 tank(font of its seat), is squared off, the S1 isnt...

can it be done? Sure, you can do anything you want...

But, if you are looking for a bigger seat, look at the M2..

Let us know what you need. This site is great for helping others out, be it knowledge, or, whatever...

I suggest a M2 tail then, it uses simliar mounts as the S1... SO...

Get a M2 tail(complete), and set it on, see where/if you need to actually extend the subframe(for strength), adn go from there..

This way, you can still swap back to the S1 tail, (which in MY opinion is the best looking)...

Hows that sound?

Rum, I have an idea as to what you are referring to, as I went from an M2 seat to an S1 for a while. The M2 is much comfier, but the S1 looks better and you will not be able to switch from one to another and back easily. The M2's had a much flatter subframe, and to covert to an S1 style you would be best to cut the back half off the S1 subframe and then extend the top frame rails about a foot, and then weld the lower rails to the bottom of the extended types, as you can see it is very involved. If you'd like I can send pics of what I did, whereas you will have to do it in reverse. Spidy has also done this and he has posted pics that were excellent in showing the best way to do it. The X1 seat is way more comfy for you but may not be for the lady, and would require extensive frame modification also but very doable. have fun!

I also had a plan to put on a firebolt type subframe, and still have some of the parts but I went a different rout. I'm pretty sure that the M2 will be the comfiest but the S1 looks the best and the firebolt would be an excellent compromise of the two...but would have to be done right, layout would be an 8 hr. job just to make sure it looked and sat properly, and then you have to hide your oil tank which wouldn't be that bad. The twin tail for the S1 with a corbin seat is an excellent way to go from what I understand, and probalby the easiest, but costly if new...Some more data points for you...

The easiest (hah!) compromise in my mind is to modify the subframe to accept the M2 tail. If you can find the parts, you can then switch back and forth between the wide M2 tail (99 and up) and the slim tail (97-98). Not as good looking as the S1 IMHO, but better than the wide M2 tail (which the wife would probably be most comfortable on). BadS1 also did the M2 - S1 conversion and if I remember right, he said it wasn't all too bad to do. Of course you might just be able to find an M2 frame somewhere (eBay maybe?) and save yourself the cutting / welding. You might have to look at the foot controls though as that part of the frames were also different. That's pretty easy to deal with though.

Corbin web site, and sometimes the plastic with the seat show up on e-bay...Most people when they get them don't come off of them, for good reason I assume.
