So far I've done the Dunlop 205, Michelin Macadam and Metzler M1. The Metzler had the best grip but worst wear. The Dunlop was average at best. The Michelin lasted some serious miles but handled like shit.

I'm thinking of trying Metzler Roadtec for my next set.

This bike is used mostly for commuting and longer rides. It does see some twisties along the way.

So what has been your favorite S3T tire?

I've done a set of Dunlops; nearing the end on a set of Michelin Pilot Roads now after about 8000 miles. I've been very happy with them; handled great in the twisties, good wet traction, good tire wear.

If I put another set of tires on it (the bike's for sale) I'll go with Continental Road Attacks. They've gotten rave reviews; supposedly stick like Michelin Pilot Powers & wear like Michelin Pilot Roads. Cheaper than either. Several riders have posted about them on the XB forum.

Lake; M1 Metzelers are quite soft, sticky tires for that kind of riding IMO. I've always run MeZ4s on the S3 and now run the Z6 Roadtec on the S2. More than plenty stick for the rather sedate type of riding I do, and they wear pretty darn well. I did a 2500 mile trip in September on fresh tires and they still look like they'd handle another 1 or 2 trips of similar mileage.

Lake,

The M1 is a good tire. Just does not last long enuff. Now running the M3 on the S1. Big improvement with the mileage and the same stick.

Trying out a set of Z6 on the RS. Supposed to be a big improvement over the Z4 line.

Then again I could be walking and riding advert for metzeler. I have been using them since '95 as my sole choice.

I liked the Metzler Z6's best on my Cyclone for that kind of riding.

Now I run the Pirelli Scorpion Syncs. They seem to wear a *little* faster then the Metzlers, but stick like crazy, be it dry, wet, or even mud and gravel.

I'll get about 6k out of a rear and 10k out of a front with fairly hard riding. I got maybe 7k (at most) on a rear tire out of the MeZ6 and D-220.

Lake,
I currently run Avon 45/46 on mine last about 5k not much more the Dunlops. I tried a set of continentals before the attack series, and found myself two wheel sliding through turns even though they went almost 7200 miles.

Ditto on the metzler Z6's. Love 'em, sticky enough, good wear, excellent in the wet. Great ride and feel.

Avon Azaro's and about 8000 on rear before replacement is needed. I will be putting Storm's on this time since the Azaro is no longer available. The tires are the same I run on the Ulysses.
My S3T is a 98 with factory race kit and 82ftlbs of torque on the ground at the rear wheel. the Avons work as well as the Dunlops if not a bit better and last about 30% longer.

On my '99 S3T, I started with the OEM Dunlop's and installed the next 3 "upgraded" versions. I was never happy with the performance or wear of the Dunlops. I've since installed the Michelin Pilot Roads. Twice the mileage and double the grip. I was so impressed, I installed a set on my XB12S. Best decision I've ever made.
