Gonna be a while before I ride again....

I tore the engine apart(long over due), and there is some pretty good gougin on the rear cylinder.. I took pics, but, they dont do the scratches justice..

I doubt they will be able to be bored.. They are already at +.005..

Anyway, so, I will know tomorrow, or tuesday whether its gonna be a basic rebuild, or, an ALL OUT 1250(woudl REALLY love to go 88 or 90 inch)....

Oh well...will post some pics later, need to do a bit of resizing..

Chase,
great deals to be had on cylinders from rev performance. I was lucky enough to be dragged along on their tour by Fireman Jim.

I'm thinking I need to do the same., I'm at about 33K on the clocks, The rear cylinder is starting to leak (at the head) noticeably.

How many miles on yours?

nope, no room for a clean bore left.

Got that call from my machinist today..

Anyway, I should be ordering the 1250 kit here within a couple weeks...

The next question, think the Race ECM will be able to fuel the 1250 without running it too lean?

I know about direct link, but first, costs tons of money, SECOND, the guy down here doesnt have the best rep for doing the directlink correctly...and, they wont let me talk directly to him(THAT alone worries me)...

Anyway.... Lets see what we can dig up....

Race ecm or Power commander will do the trick.

With a 1250 and exhaust I would go with the power commander and race, but overall you need to find someone to do direct link right.

Ok, this is a stupid post/question....

What should I go with for cylinders???

Black?

Black with polished fins?

Natural(I already say no)..

Or the silver finish...

As a reference, all the aluminum on the bike IS polished..period.

Seems like a lot of surface area to keep clean.
Maybe you can find a paint color that mimics road-grime : )

All kidding aside, rough surfaces radiate heat better. Perhaps shotpeened or beadblasted?

Dog, PM sent...

Well, I have been talking to both Revolution, and Nallin, trying to decide which way is gonna be the best way to go, and as of this moment, I am still undecided.

I know about supporting the sponsors, BUT, seeing as how I dont really have the money to do this(especially since trying to open this shop)...I need to get it right the first time.

there is plenty of info on this(1250) topic in the KV, and that STILL leaves me undecided...

SO...but, I need to do it...I need my bike back...

Any inputs?

Save the polished fins for Sportsters, go black on that bike.

Well, I ordered my 1250 Kit on friday, and have a PC3 on the way as well(thanks again Jim)..

For now, its just gonna be a 1250'd X1, but looking at a set of 536 cams...BUT, that will be when i can get close to a dyno to tune the bloody thing..

Yeah, I did end up with the Polished fins on the black jugs...

This bike sits outside in front of my shop, or in the front room of the shop when I am there, it is the first thing people see when they show up, so, it does need to stand out..guess its time to take it a little further..

Anyway, the kit should ship this week...will be nice to ride it again...

NOW, to find a PC3 map for this setup(1250), and maybe with a set of cams...

Power Commanders are not intended for any bike that uses an O2 sensor (Buell). The ECM will always try to correct changes made by the PC. Bike runs fine on the dyno but goes to hell after one ride in "learning mode". Use Direct Link.

Justin,
Do other FI bikes like a Yam or Kaw not use a O2 sensor?

Direct link? Well, that will pretty much mean I am converting to carb, since, as my buddy confirmed..the DL tuner here is...well...

I am going to make one more pass, and try to talk to them...BUT, the tuning is 300.. PLUS, I need to buy the ECM key which I have NO CLUE how much that costs...

Anyway... now back to aquare one...

so, ya'll think I should convert to a basic carb, and aftermarket ignition???

Justin
the pc3 alters injector pulse width depending on TP, o2, and injector pulse width as an input
These it uses for adding or removing per fuel user settings

My experience with the PC3 does not indicate that your statement entirely correct,

I removed mine because it was not needed with the standard X1 engine using a super trapp and Force winder, (once the real problem the CHT had been rectified)
I ran it for about 1 year it consistently did what I set it for that was add fuel.
the bike had sooty plugs while it got about 35 mpg,
I zeroed the pc3 out and the sled got 45~49 mpg {but bone white plugs} a race ECM should fit the bill and simplify the electrical system, Chase needs to add fuel the PC3 will do this and do it reasonably well

BTW Chase the Unit shipped today, try the FI before giving up. you are not making that drastic of a change

on the ecm key call AL

between us I would require any tuner to warrant the work so if the mill gets toasted HE gets the bill,
The vast majority of direct link work has been done on the XB platform and their FI programming [maps] are said to be better,
a conversation with AL may be worth the time before proceeding in any direction..

yeah, just got off the phone with Fireman Jim, and he agrees with the statement about talking with Al..

Hopefully there will be something...

I also need to start piecing the Nitrous system together as well..

Also need another fuel pump, etc etc.....

Has anyone found a programable ignition that will work with the EFI? Something like the Dyna?

Just wondering..

BUT, on their website, you can still ge tthe maps...

Jim, I will check it out. I also have a buddy back in NH, that I know was playing with a FI system for the tubers... I will also give him a call this week....

I was able to get a 90", with cams and heads to perform with direct link; so I think you should have no problems with your 1250. The biggest problem for you is finding somone to do it correctly. That was the same concern for me, since there was maybe only one or two tubers done before mine. I had to drive around 8hrs round trip to get mine done.

I still think the cheapest and easiest is to go to carb.
