So, I found a guy near me that is selling an S2. I believe its a 95 or 96. I'll have to ask again. But, it's blue and it looks cosmetically good, and everything looks really nice on the bike. It's got around15,000 miles and runs nice. What is a good/bad price? He said he wants at least 3500 for it. Is this fair, too much or a steal? The tubers have really been growin on me lately. Just curious.

Thanks

Mark

$3500 is a low price IMO
I wouldn't sell mine for that.

I paid $12,500 for my first '95 (brand new) and $9,000 for my second one used.

The S2 is my all time favorite bike I've ever owned; so I'm not biased at all ;)

Then again, one of my favorite cars was my 1985 GMC Caballero (or was it a truck?);
that is other than my 1964-1/2 Mustang convertible.

Howdy! I just bought a '95 S2 on ebay for $2750. Sounds and looks like a deal. I'm picking it up Sat (in time for my Christmas!). Any problems I should look for? Any upgrades worth doing? This will be my 3rd Buell (had a '01 M2 Cyclone and an '05 XB12R. Loved them all, too!).

This one?

For $2750?? That looks like a great buy to me. If you've previously owned an M2 you probably know about all the common stuff (rocker box gaskets, kickstand switches, etc.). The only S2-specific issues I can think of offhand are the handlebars (some of, I think, the higher "touring" bars have been recalled for the way they are welded--search the KV, there's plenty of info on it) and the bend in the kickstand (search the KV for the "Aaron Wilson bend" that lets the bike sit more nearly vertical when on the stand).

Ride that thing--it looks like a beauty!

Sounds like a fair price provided the motor and such is sound. I paid $4200 for mine some years ago - and of course has spent countless $$ "tweaking" things : )

S2 modifications: I'd install the updated primary chain tensioner and a Uly clutch spring plate while you're in there. Maybe eliminate the spring plate in the clutch pack.

Also make sure the carb has been de-choked by drilling out the plug and adjusting the air/fuel mixture screw as well as bumping the stock low speed jet up a size.

If the suspension is still stock it might be time to change the fork springs, have the forks revalved for you as well as either rebuild or replace the stock shock with an aftermarket shock.

If you're still running the stock headlight, replace the one-piece bulb/reflector unit and buy a housing that will accept H4 (I believe) bulbs from Al at American Sport Bike.

Make sure to go over all your cables and clean, lube and adjust. The speedo cable in particular is know for breaking if not maintained.

Lots more - bet you're sorry you asked : D

1995 Yellowjacket . . . gorgeous bike. That color was used in a number of cool articles.

It'll be a good deal different than your other Buells and I suspect you'll love it.

If that is the bike I notice it does not have the stock swingarm, and I am prepared to pay well for it. Or trade S-2 parts--I happen to have a new in the box headlight upgrade from Al. ??

One thing I noticed when I got my S2. I had always heard how great the handled and how you "become one with the bike".
My first rides were not too encouraging, in fact I hit some corners that were pretty spookey.
The bike didn't want to lay down in corners, then felt like it was going to fall over.
I changed tires from Continentals to Bridgstones.
Holy jeeves, what a difference. I LOVE MY S2!!!

Hustling it through the mountiains in AZ in 05 was a pure delight. I can't wait to do it again.
You WILL like the S2.

Hey Bluzm2 - which Bridgstones did you end up using? If I end up keeping my RS I'm changing from the Avon's that are on it now. Feeling a little leery on 'em.
FMJ - I noticed that swingarm too - what MFG is that?

Yeah, the bike in the photo is the one I'm buying. Current owner says it has carbon fiber exhaust (muffler?) and other fiber parts, too (heat shield?) as well as engine upgrades for more mid-range. I pick it up Fri. My daughter is a sophomore at Ga Tech (ME major), and she instantly christened this bike "Buzz", after the Ga Tech mascot. I suspect a few yellow jacket stickers from Tech will be on this bike soon! My Firebolt was too fast, as in lock-em-up for speeding fast. I actually liked the ride of the M2 better, but the Firebolt looked and cooked. Here's hoping I like the S2. If not, ebay or bad-weather classified!

Purchased my 95 S2 for $2500 sight unseen. Wanted it to build a street tracker out of it so was just looking for parts. The bike was rough but I love it! It is now my "Bad" bike that gets more compliments than my good bike. (The bad bike can be ridden most anywhere any time) A friend rode mine and went out and bought a S3. He likes the S2 better.

The S2 I bought off ebay was a great deal! It runs great and has minimal cosmetic scratches. The worst ting about it is the sidestand. Wow, what a bad piece of engineering! I'll search badweb for the cure. Are there any common modifications I should consider? rear sets? The longer swingarm is polished, and the previous owner said it cost a bit, too. Merry Christmas to all, I'm going for a ride!

Left,
Sorry I missed your post, I've been away for a bit..
I have Bridgstones on my S2. I have a BT020 on the rear and a BT010 on the front.
In the past, fronts have lasted for two rears, not this time. The rear is about shot and the front isn't far behind.
I really like the "stick" of the front. They warm up fairly quickly and give you nice feedback.
The front actually has about 1/3 to 1/2 tread left, but is getting funny wear patterns. Not the fault of the tire, probably due to my weight and riding style (pretty agressive (for an old fart anyway)at times).
Also probably due to a blown rear shock.

I'd put them on again no questions.

Rhinely,
Is the swing arm longer than stock? If so, you might want to consider going back to stock length.
I suspect a longer arm is really going to have an effect on handling.

Brad,
How long is a stock swingarm? I can't tell if the one on my S2 is stock polished, or aftermarket, since it is the only one I have! I'm taking the sidestand to work Fri to bend it down and forward. Hope it works! When I need new tires I'll try Bridgestones. This bike rides great and feels similar to my previous M2 and xb12R on the interstate commute, but does not feel confident in corners. Of course I'm getting older, too... Grips look like old school Harley, think I'll switch to the Buell Traction grips. Everyone have a safe New Year Buell'ing.

Might have trouble mounting the Traction Grips - your bars are 1" and I believe the tractions are for 7/8" bars.
If you want smaller diameter ones the newest sportsters have a smaller diameter grip and they are available from the Motor Co.
You'd probably need to trim the 'flange' from the left grip, if it has one, as it might not fit inside the switch housing. The newer grips have a wide flange on them that tucks inside the '96 (?) and later type of switch housing.
I changed my controls on my RS to the late style as I prefer the smooth switches and wider levers. I still hit the friggin horn button when trying to get high beam - they are in opposite positions to the older switch layout!

If that is indeed your bike in the pic above you have an aftermarket swingarm, possibly a Metmachex. Should be stock length. I have been after one for years now and would certainly make it worth your while--and have stock arm available to go on it.

The rest of you fools---Back away from the swingarm, I am armed and dangerous.
