First let me thank all of you that have helped me learn a lot more about Buells. I found a 97 S3t at a dealer( non buell) located 6 hours from me. Does anyone have a checklist or anything to guide me through a logical inspection of this machine. My goal is to make only one trip, inspect-buy-trailer home.If i gave the vin to my local dealer would they be able to tell me if all the recall work has been done?
Thanks again for all your help, this is a fantastic site for info, in the future i hope i can help as well.

yes, your dealer can run the VIN and check for open recalls. Takes about 1 minute.
For things to check
Rocker box gaskets for leaks
Isolators for tears
Exhaust for breaks
Inner saddlebags for cracks
Starter gasket for leaks
Belt, make sure it hasn't been running too tight. It should be scary loose.
Front rotor for rattles
Front head, where the isolator bracket bolts to it. Look for cracks or welds.

almost forgot
Rear shock for leaks.
Make sure it hasn't just been wiped down.
If it has, compress the back of the bike down about 5-10 times and then check for leaks.

Dont forget cracks in the body work, 97's were know for it, and the bodywork changed in 98 making it stronger and less prone to cracking

Take it for a decent test ride at the very least 20 minutes to check for any intermittent engine misses, pulses from the brake lever indicating a warped rotor or front end issues and does it track in a straight line, leaking fork seals, etc

Timn-
You're from Minnesota? There are several Buellers around that would probably be willing to help you.

I live in the St Cloud area, and want to make sure I know what to look for before I pick up my used S3T. The current owner seems to have taken very good care of it though.
Thanks
Mike

Well gentleman, My wife and I went to WI and brought back this green 97 s3t ( See profile Pic). I test rode it and it was 25 degrees out, I think that was the coldest I ever rode. The previous owner kept this bike in fantastic shape, I only found a failing front isolater and a missing muffler spring it also needs new tires.( already left a message for Dave S)

Give this link a try. I haven't used it yet but I pulled it from UK Buell Enthusiast Group's Technical forum.

Pretty bike. Has the Zero Gravity +3 screen on it too. Which shock is that? Have the dealer run the VIN to make sure that the recall was done. Is that that a throttlemeister I spy? My front isolator is failing too, and I got the part just the other day. Now I need to buy a crow's foot and wait for my garage to get a little warmer. LOL

Edit - cool link Bad_Karma - that should let him know about the shock...}
