Considering going out to the track Saturday to enter their "Streetfighter" event. Anybody interested? You could just "test and tune" if you are not interested in entering the race or just ride to the track for the fun of it and watch.....Besides street nights (getting to cold, dark and damp for me), this will be the last event of the season for bikes! http://www.newenglanddragway.com/trackinfo/handbook/ned_specialty_classes.shtml# streetfighter | ||

Although I had the slowest bike, my S3 was the only streetbike ridden to the “Streetfighter” race at New England Dragway today. It was cool and windy and we only got to take 2 practice runs - with best light qualifying 1st (my brother Chris got it with a .011 light). I tried to find a way to be consistent as that is more important in bracket racing then speed is. With that in mind I was satisfied that my practice runs were 12.0’s even thought neither was perfect for different reasons. I was a little afraid of dialing to soft because there were a lot of seasoned racers running, so I dialed at a 12.00. 1st run I cut an ok light, ran a 12.025 and the other rider broke out trying to beat me to the finish line. 2nd run I know it is going a lot quicker! I’m thinking “F___ I’m gonna break out, so how soon do I lift”? I was about 30’ from the finish line and I chopped it, crossed the finish line and then he came ripping by me (on a Busa) but on the brakes too. I ran a 11.77 on my 12.00 and broke out but, unnoticed by me, he had red-lighted anyway! A bigger problem was where did 3 tenths come from- I’m like “WTF”? I think we were fighting a quartering headwind at 1st and it turned to a crosswind (I have run a 11.75 before). For the semi-finals, I don’t know what to dial, so I go with a 11.80 figuring I can roll off if I think I am going quicker that. I am against a very consistent/seasoned guy and try to hard at the finish light and break out again, but this time he cuts a better light and ran a 9.384 against a 984 dial in. I never had a chance, but I did lower my own personal best ET on the S3 a couple of hundreds to a 11.73! | ||

I wish! It's bracket racing, I had a big headstart and he came by (bye?)me at the 1/4 mile doing about 140 to my 113!  That is the beauty of bracket racing! I run 2-3 of these races (streetfighter) a year, plus 6 or so street nights and, contrary to the "brand" bickering you see on other posts, am always welcomed by the regulars typically running liter+ sportbikes | ||

113 sounds like some good piloting none the less. You and your sled might be a little lighter, BUT a busa has you by better than 2x stock RWHP [ S3 - X1 ]85+ Busa 165 + | ||

Yes that is a pretty warmed over 4 valve motor- who says air-cooled is old, slow technology?  He loves it when he puts it to some kid on a newer, "high tech", "plastic bike"! A friend of ours, who unexpectedly passed away this summer, sold my brother this bike and had one of his own that went 8's without wheelie bars, but he would literally push himself up onto the tank to keep the front down! You have a good run going when you can keep about that amount of daylight under your front tire. Any more and you are going to have to lift - any less and you could have left harder! | ||

11s on an S3, you're one hell of a wrench! Nah, bought it last winter with 5k on it. It already had the cf ham can and exhaust. I put the race ecm on it and that is it. Oh, and I strapped the front end down, that is good for .1 to .15! It's not the wrench it is the rider - I've beaten quite a few bikes that are quicker on paper! | ||

He loves it when he puts it to some kid on a newer, "high tech", "plastic bike"! but-but-but the spec sheet said .... Lol, do you carry peroxide and tweezers to help those poor unfortunate bench racers out? splinters in the Arse can be kinda painfull, especialy plastic ones... in the end its the nut holding on the handle bars that makes the difference.  |
