Howdy!
I will have a service manual soon! But in the meantime, I need to firm up the rear suspension because my wife will be my passenger this weekend.
Does the large nut on the shock body increase the spring pressure? How many turns of it for a 130 lbs passenger? Also what do the small screws on the shock body and reservoir do?
Thank you!

Duckbuell:

Take a look at these two links. They have more then you need but you will find the adjustment procedure and damping settings.

The big nut is just a lock nut. Loosen it fully then turn the can to adjust spring preload. Screw the can towards the loosened locknut to increase preload for carrying a passenger. Then retighten the locknut, but not too tight. You'll also want to increase shock compression damping, that is the adjuster on the remote reservoir, screw it in another half turn or so.

Anticipating your next question, go to Home Depot (or your favorite discount home repair chain store) and buy one of these:

"Tool, Showa, Rear Shock, Preload Adjusting, The 6027 wrench for the 01/02 shocks is no longer available, but we have a limited number of 6015 wrenches for the older Showa shock still."

Won't work on his recall shock.
