Did a search but didn't find what I was looking for.

My 2001 S3T has both original lowers, neither is currently cracked @ 7,200 miles. I read about the velcro fix for the right side - but I also read that in 2001, the plastic was a different material - so I am not planning to do the velcro mod and assuming the plastic is now strong enough. Mistake?

My other question is about the left side. It only has one mounting point up near the frame halfway down the length of the lower. The bottom half flaps around like a bird wing at idle - though it is stable at speed. As I said, its not cracked and 2001 supposedly had better plastic.

But, should I add another mount of some kind lower down in a simlar position as the right side to brace it and keep it from flapping around at idle? Or - is the ability to flap around what has kept it from cracking?

My bike is still in the shop for the bucking issue on deceleration from 3K down, and my saddlebags are still at the boat repair shop being fiberglassed. Maybe I should have the fairings fiberglassed too??

Noustin:

The right lower on my 2001 cracked which I repaired with fiberglass. The vibration of the lower reduced substantially with the velcro fix. I have since replaced the cracked one with a spare I bought on e-bay. This spare had a stiffened lower steel bracket and a steel insert for the lower fairing hole compared to my stock one. I have mounted this one with the velcro fix too.

Yup ... the left side will be fine. If it rubs the engine just loosen and rotate the piece that clamps to the frame a bit. I cut mine with a dremel to accommodate the '01 shifter.

Do the Velcro on the right side just to be safe. I went through 2 before I did it. Now I have 43k miles on my '99 and it's still doing fine.
