Ok, I've installed a Super Trapp Exhaust, Stage 1 Jets, Screaming Eagle Air Intake, Royal Purple Synthetics every where, new plugs and wires. What is the next "inexpensive" thing I can do to enhance the performance a little bit more on my S2. I ride mostly on back country and mountain "twisty" roads, so torque out of the turns is real big on my list of "I want that"... any suggestions???? thanks in advance... ron

now that all depends on the term inexpensive........ i would suggest xb heads then cams, then ignition, then bigger carb....... then 1250 kit.... i've got an s2 with 103.8hp and 88lbs....with that combination.

Thunderstorm heads pistons S.E.536 cams, race header & muff.thunder jet & forcewinder=90+horse90ft.lbs. Least expensive "smiles per mile" S2 hop up i`ve come across.

well, if your gonna go cams, you want to upgrade the heads first.... the stock s2 heads wont support the se536 cams(without upgrading springs) which is what i'm running as well....... if your gonna stop your upgrading with the next step (yeah right, your adicted to power like the rest of us) then go ahead and upgrade springs, and cams and carb... if your not gonna stop here..... then your next upgrade needs to be heads....... and xb heads can be had for about the same price as thunderstorm heads....

Jason, can a port and polish job be sufficient along with the hi-perf valve springs.. I have a lot experience of building SB chevys and have ported and polished dozens of double hump heads. I have about $900 to spend on pieces parts that I can hide from the boss. (Sold one of my old dirt bikes).....I can do the heads, new springs, new cams and maybe a Mikuni??? or which carb should I go after??,,thanks ron

for 900 you can probably have a set of xb heads, and new cams........ then you have a better base to start from..... the stock s2 heads are nothing but a set of sportster heads.... they are not even close to the thunderstorm heads, let alone xb heads.... now i dont know the extent of your porting skills, but my guess would be no.

How much difference does a Race Exhaust make? Next to modified heads or a big bore kit this is one of the more expensive parts you can get, unless I'm looking in the wrong places. Are the original pipes on the S2 that restrictive? Could you get good performance with stock pipes and an after market muffler?

My "race exhaust" makes a substantial difference, without all that expensive and time-consuming engine performance work!

lol.... now that race exhaust would do wonders..... let me start by saying that the collector on the stock s2 exhaust is only 2.0 inches... and on almost every other buell its 2.5 inches..... so at very least, upgrade to something with a 2.5in collector... then add a decent can, and your ready to go for a decent price..... but definatly get rid of that original header.....

So... Can the exhaust from say an S3 fit an S2? I hate to ditch my nice gold-hued stainless header for a coated force pipe that costs $750 or more. What other options are there than Force?

Cyber, your S-2 comes with a 29t front sprocket and most other Buells came with a 27t front.Quick, easy, cheap addition for more get up in the twisties. You give up a bit of top end cruising for it.
You would honestly not notice the difference in the race exhaust with the mods you have.Base S-2 motor is just a Sportster motor with better breathing. Any more performance is going to come from internal changes--cams,heads,big bore kit.

And BTW,your stock S-2 aircleaner was a K&N so you gained nothing with the SE set-up.And the carbon fiber looks so much better.

Leftcoastal, how f'n loud is that thing. My bike is seriously loud with a Buell race muffler.

Does the turbo have any muffling properties?

The turbo substantially quiets the bike - although I never owned this bike when it had the stock Supertrapp system, I'm willing to bet it's quieter now, with the turbo.

A turbo on a Buell, even with such a short exhaust 'stub' is DEFINITELY a lot quiter than a race muffled Buell.

i'm not going to say no, but it aint easy bein cheasy........ but in all seriousness, what you want is an exhaust from an s1w, or a buell race exhaust that goes over the frame........ or a dnd full, or a force full system....... i use the force, just like luke...

I haven't tried it, but I'm pretty sure that the S2 & S3 systems will not interchange due to frame clearance issues at the rear header area. The aftermarket systems specifically made for the S2 may be the only real option to achieve that larger pipe size you are looking for.
This may sound kinda dumb, but is it necessarily true that having a larger pipe diameter will IN FACT breathe better than the stock size pipe - when you factor in all the variables of port size & exhaust velocity, intake size, carb, muffler type, extraction effects, etc.? I'm sure it would make a difference at high rpms such as for drag racing, but what about low & mid-range where most of us so our riding? Anyone have some hard facts on this?

Perhaps he can get a welder to "cut 'n paste" his system to have a 2.5" collector?
There are lots of dented pipes out there that could probably be bought for small amounts of money.

Find a guy with a TIG welder and turn him into into a friend with a TIG welder.

Early S-3 should be the same as an S-2 but it has a 2" collector also. But a Buell race pipe from one should work.I think you are correct in your assessment,Al.Most bikes never be able to tell the difference in everyday riding.

al when i said it aint easy bein cheasy, i was refering to the pipe fitting.... it can be done..... i've seen it, but with alot of work.... and as far as the 2 in vs the 2.5 in collector, yes with the stock s2 heads..... stick with what ya have... but if like most of us your gonna want more upgrades in the future.... go for a better upgrade... (2.5) as with thunderstorm or xb heads, it definatly makes a diff..... and with a big bore, even more of a diff........ remember the old addage about the sum of the parts.........

Well, I keep thinking about it. (I've got some time since I'm not planning on doing any major upgrades till winter.) And I think I want to stick to the original spirit of the S2 with minor upgrades... cams, ignition, V&H or Borla muffler, and maybe a new carb. Maybe some T-storm heads will find their way on it some day. But I really like the stock pipes so they're gonna stay. If I ever want HP I'll just take the 2-3 grand I'd spend on headwork, big-bore, and pipes and spend it on a used 600 Yamaha or Honda as a second bike. The S2 is all about torque and mid-range power.
