I've seen, somewhere on this site, an S2 with a different shift lever on it than the stock chrome one. It was a factory aluminum one from another bike. I think it was from an M2. Does anyone know which levers interchange with the S2? How much trouble is it to swap them out?

Actually the one I'm thinking of is an S3 shifter.

Id like to have a longer one than the stock S2 shift lever,, I have size 13 boot and it doesnt fit easily under the lever. Adjusting it up just makes it harder to get to when you have to down shift, so that doesnt work.. Any posts on this would be appreciated,,thanks

s2 an m2 shifter are the same.

a s2's ergos are a little more aggresive than either.

you may want to use a x1's half moon lever or get the banke style shifter...

I installed the upgraded shifter for the late model tubers, but had the same problem with getting my foot under it to shift up.
Resolved the problem by cutting an inch off the end of the lever and drilling and tapping a new hole for the peg. works fine...

Bartimus, can you send me a close-up pic of what you did, sounds like a cure for my big foot problem. This is exactly what Ive been looking for,, right now I shift with the side of my foot most of the time. I have a worn spot on the side of my boot because of it...either a pic or a simple drawing would help me understand what you did,,thanks ron..

I wear about an 11 and managed to get mine adjusted to work well. That tie rod with the threaded ends gave me enough.

Mine is the '99 shift kit upgrade still available at dealerships.
In fact, I think I still have one laying around...

Interesting. The horizontal lever is straight and bends outward away from the derby cover. That would be much better for the reversed S3 peg mounts I run at the track. I have the other style shifter (factory 2002 M2), and I can't angle the lever up very far because it hits the cover.

i think youhave the one for the X1.
My M2 shifter is like the one in Dave's picture.
Tough to tell but yours looks longer than the other one.

Brad,

The X1 shifter is longer than the M2 shifter, due to the different peg locations of the bikes. Bart's is definitely a cut down X1 lever.

Mine was alot longer.
I cut a little more than an inch off it, and drilled and re-tapped it to relocate the shift peg. : )
I'm pretty sure it was for a '00 X1. I got it from Daves.

I just put this S3/M2 shifter kit on my S2T - same as Dave's:

In general I like not having the arc bumping up against my ankle, but the arm is too long - I can't easily get my size 10 foot under the shifter peg. Of course my pegs are lower than on a standard S2 which ought to make it easier - but no.

I was thinking that maybe a longer rod would allow me to rotate the shift arm for better leverage and at the same time buy me a bit of room for my foot. Of course there is a limit to how much higher the peg can go before the shifter hits the primary.

try reversing the shifter, flipping it over and threading the rubber toe part on the other side.
This will change the rear attaching point from pointing down, to pointing up.
Then your exsisting adjustment rod will probably have enough adjustment.
As you can see from my shifter pic, there is plenty of clearance with the primary.

This is the kind of shifter I wanted to replace my bent stock one with. Is this a stock X1 piece? Would it fit an S2? Seems like it would.

'99 M2 and S3 run it as well and would be a better ft due to length (peg location) If I still have my old S3 shifter, I'd give it to you. They have more more play than the later version.
