Just thinking aloud here...would it be possible to retrofit a later tuber with one of those removable isolator plates from an earlier model. This would make belt changes on my '01 S3T a bazillion times easier. Any input on feasibility, cost...?

See if you can get an X1 frame on E-bay Transplant and adapt the s3t to it.

the removable plate on that frame is not an easy transplant as the frame has a small plate that fits the side plate
to install that would require lots of cutting and welding on your existing frame.

the only issue I see ( having never wrenched an S3 ) would be the sub frame connections [ easier to adapt for sure ]

I wonder why the X1 mod did not make it across the entire tuber line...

That's the $40 question.

BTW, someone has posted a link here showing a widget for SLIGHTLY spreading the frame on the sprocket side that lets you drop one isolator and change the belt. It looks like it could probably even be used on the side of the road if necessary. If it works, it sure would be easier than dropping the swingarm carrier.
