Like CJ said...you'll need to cut & weld. It's been done to M2's and S3's before. The front conversion isn't too difficult. You'll need the dash, flyscreen, headlight & mounts. The guages are the same size. The tank will fit just fine.

I'll try to find some picture of my conversion. I've since pulled the motor and built this....

Nope the tail and tank section won't meet up nicely but I'd bet with a bit of glass and some epoxy it'd work...

Ceejay..are you sure they won't meet up nicely? Both BadS1 & Spidey did the conversion with M2 frames. They didn't have any troubles.

John....yup..Crossroads bars. The picture above is actually a true blue (or white) S1W expect for a motor from a 1998 S3T. But it's really the same motor in both bikes.

Like you, I purchased a cheap S3T. Because I didn't need two of the same bike, I decided to custom the cheap bike. I have pictures somewhere but I can't seem to find them. They may be on an old laptop I have somewhere in the house. I pulled all the fairing stuff off the S3T. Had a friend make a custom aluminium dash that was the shape of an X1 dash but with the larger (pre-99) gauge openings. I then used the Crossroads bars and a carbon fiber X1 flyscreen. I kinda miss that bike : ( It was extremely comfortable but with a sportier feel. If I was you, I'd only do the front end conversion and see how you like the feel. You can always do the tail section at a later date.

Good luck! I'll continue looking for those pictures.

Sorry about the bad image quality. I found this on a quick search of BadWeb. This is the front of the S3T with the X1 set-up and Crossroads bars.

The 98 S3, tank and S1W Tank are the same part.

As long as you make the rear frame the same as a S1 it will match up perfectly!

Just make sure you get a S1W seat, a standard S1 seat will not work...

John,
Why not pick up a clean, affordable S1W? I've got one not too far from NV, price negotiable.

Then you'll have the best of both worlds. : )

John....the S3 tank and the S1W tank are the same. The S1 tank and pre-'99 M2 tank are the same (smaller 4 gallon tanks). Best bet for finding a smaller tank....classifieds on BWB or Ebay.

BTW....I know somebody that has an S1 tail section. It would need some paint. I'm unsure on the price.

G'day Airbrushjohn, tail section and seat was bought new from Buell dealer in Brisbane Australia,It matches that tank as its an S1(small) tank I bought of ebay, my standard tank from my S3 dose'nt match perfectly but will suffice,I believe 98 S1's don't match were tank meets tail properly either.Photo is only a mock up to give an idea how it will all look.My new sunset orange wheels turned up today from my best friend ebay(hard to get Buell parts here in Oz) frame and wheels will be sunset orange and body will be pearl white with orange tank decals from an XB. hears a picture of another S3 converted to an S1 this thing is absolutely awesome!(owner works at Morgan and Wacker Harley Davidson and Buell Brisbane Australia)
Keep you posted
Jodie

Hi new pic of the project, as you can see battery tray has been removed and spun around, similar to X1 Buell. Will also be installing PC535 Odessey battery(smaller and lighter weight) engine and swing ready to remove, metal lathe nearly set up(to make bearing housings for swingarm.
Very excited about this project will keep you posted.

hey guys here's some more pictures of the XB swingarm mods, Firstly I made a stand that when engine was removed allowed it and the swingarm to be at exact standard ride height.
I then removed my swingarm and took all the measurements for the spacers I needed to fabricate on my lathe.I made the spacers so they would slip into the place of the XB's bearing's and then cut the ends so that the original S3's taper bearing's could be used(easy for parts replacements) I have just bought the 3/4inch chrome moly tube for my frame mods and a brand new Tig welder to weld it all up. I am really happy how it is progressing so far. hope to have it on the road before I get my licence back in December.I had to relief cut the rear foot peg hangers as the XB swingarm is wider than S3's no major probs there.
As you can see by the photo's she's going to look pretty special when complete(THE BIKE BUELL SHOULD HAVE BUILT!!!)
Thanks will keep you posted.
