I just bought my first Buell today, and I am frickin' excited. It's a beautiful, practically flawless 1997 Cyclone. Unfortunately I won't be picking it up until tomorrow evening Taking it out for a test drive today was an absolute blast. The torque is unreal (especially coming from a ex250). I have been lurking here for quite a while just watching, but now hope to actively participate in the forum.... In short, be ready for my questions, I warned you. I guess I should introduce myself too. My name is Brandon, and I live in Sierra Vista, AZ. I am 18 years old and just graduated high school. This Fall I am shipping out for the Navy to start my life adventure. That's me in a nutshell. If you have any ?'s don't be shy, because I assure you I won't be. Oh yeah, I would like a carbon fiber rear hugger for my Cyclone. If anyone knows where I can find one, please let me know. Thanks Guys!  | ||

Nice looking bike Brandon. Be careful of your new beastie it's quite a change from your old ride. I am now going to step on my old guy soapbox. Rant on Get the best gear and training you can and practice braking drills and countersteering until it's muscle memory. It's important. I used to crash a lot the first time I rode bikes, I have a lot of scars from that time period. I had no clue how bikes worked or why. It got me in trouble often. This time around after a 13 year break I read everything I can get my hands on regaurding the correct way to ride a bike fast (because I am an adrenaline junkie, I will ride stupid fast on occasion, well most of the time) and I practice every ride some part of those books. I've also started attending what are essentially track days at a local school with a driving course for their LE and Paramedic courses. I am learning how my bike behaves in a reasonably safe enviroment although two people crashed hard enough yesterday to need an ambulance. Someone once said the difference between a genius and everyone else is a genius learns from other peoples mistakes. Be a genius dude. Rant off. Gorgeous bike really.  | ||

nice looking bike! For the CF hugger, watch e-bay, but make sure you are looking at the good stuff. I got a factory Buell CF hugger for my S3 for $86 plus shipping! I'll get on the gear soapbox too- you need boots over the ankle (you can get Herman Survivor Commander boots at Wal-mart for $50) and try newenough.com for some overpants. Ride safe - Have fun! | ||

The left fork on the M2 has brackets that you can use as a mounting point for you base registration sticker. | ||

Thanks guys, I do have Icon boots, but I just forgot to bring them on the test ride... Yes, I know, stupid of me. I'll work on getting some pants too. It's hard to believe how perfect the bike is. It was owned by an older gentleman who did all the work for it, and then was bought by some rich guy on a whim. Apparently his Harley would be in the shop for a few days so he needed a bike to get thru those couple days. Afterwards he decided two bikes was too much and sold this one to me for a screamin' deal. | ||

DLI...thats not What Bluz meant... Me, I am a Mineman (MN)(though I have not worked in my rate in several years), though I have been through ALOT of specialty schools, C shools which come with NECs... IIRC DLI, carries a specialty code or a NEC.. Ok, reading their website, it looks like a school centered around the AirForce... NOW, if you are going straight to the Presidio @ Monteray, what school are you lined up for, AFTER that... What field are you going into? For the Navy, DLI is a secondary job, or a specialty. So, in effect, what rate are you going for? IT, OS, BM etc.... PM sent.... Chase | ||

For those that don't "get" CTI, Brandon's rate (i.e., MOS/AFSC/OF) is going to be Cryptologic Technician, Interpretive Branch. He will be learning a language is going to become a cunning linguist. Brandon, I'm a retired CTR (I was a ditty bopper, you'll learn more about that later) so it is okay if I poke a little fun at CTI's. :>  Nice taste in bikes, that is a classic. Hey Brandon, great looking bike,, good luck with it. I am also new to Buells,, I have a mint 95 S2 Thunderbolt. I am now hooked on Buells,,have been a HD guy for a while. But also have had several rice rockets,,(have the scars to prove it). My buell rocks,,so I hope you find that these bikes are hidden gems,, that few people know about... So good luck and keep using the forum,,these guys are great and will help you with anything you need... If you ever get to the North Georgia Mountains,, give me a call and I can show you some twisties that will test your bike and your guts..... thanks ron | ||

That's a good jump from an EX! Do yourself a favor and before you buy ANY "go fast" part, invest in your brain and signup for a track day at your local track. They're a little bit pricey -- it can cost you over $500, but when you get passed on the outside by a guy on an that EX250 you'll realize it's not the bike that makes the difference, it's all you. It will make your bike experience more enjoyable, safer and much less expensive! | ||

Thanks for the advice Sloppy. The nearest track is about 3 hours away, so it might be a little while before I make it to the track. It is definitely something I would like to do. I think if I lived near a track I would have a designated track only bike. I should probably give a little update on the bike... I frickin' love it. I have almost 1000 miles on it, and I have thoroughly enjoyed every single one. I think I will find it hard, if not impossible to ever want an inline 4. I rode my friend's 2006 GSXR 750 before buying my motorcycle, and I don't regret my choice at all. |
