I am going to look at one tomorrow, what should I look for on it?

It has 4000 or so miles on it the kid bought it off ebay this year some time, I can't find it in the ebay history.

Whats it worth?
Thanks

Swampy,
The Kelly Blue book is 6600. The ones I've see trade hands are in the 5 - 6k (watching Ebay auctions) range. Assuming good condition and such.

The X1's we're pretty well sorted for 2001 - 2002. Mines got 30K on it (2001) rides pretty nice and hasn't need much in the way of real maintenance (drive belt was the biggest thing)

Check the upper front isolator, those go pretty quick and the rocker box gaskets will leak, but thats about it. You'll want to ride and make sure it "carburates" well. The FI can be quirky, especially on blipping the throttle when its hot.

Good luck

Matt

Swampy,
You might be able to look it up on ebay if you can get the item# from his feedback profile, sometimes you can track via the item# 8 months or more into the past. If you ping me w/his username I'll take a look for you...

Depending how old the "kid" is, I would inquire into whether it's pulled wheelies, stoppies, burnouts... can be rough on fork seals, not to mention the trans.

Also if it's been tipped over, even the slowest-speed left-side tip-overs can cause Buell clutches to develop problems and it may take up to a few thousand miles before they show up.

I'd also check the oil levels as an indicator of owner knowledge; if they're too high they could cause seals to fail.

It should be in excellent shape w/such low mileage, unless it's been abused.

Here is one w/3500 miles in FL and he dropped his price to 4k.

Those WL's are good-lookin bikes.

Yep, Joe and Balckbelt hit the nail on the head...

My rear shock is pretty much toast, it didnt seem to like the stoppies too much, and on top of the fork seals, and thing you MIGHT wanna check in the bearings in the steering head.

Yes, the FI can be kinda quirky, I know mine was (99), BUT, as mentioned above, I the newer X1s I have run across, seemed to be pretty well sorted out. Usually, the race ecm seems to stop all that. Rocker bov gaskets arent bad to replace..

IF its been dropped, it seems to also take its toll on the base gaskets as well..

Mine also started leaking from behind teh timing cover...so...

Good luck..if you can get it for about 4g or so, I would say go for, hell I would try to snag it myself I think....

12,000 miles, has updated rocker gaskets, front isolator is OK, updated rear shock, fork seals are fine, rear tire a little low on tread, D & D or BUB pipe. Other than that it looks spectacular.
The owner wasnt around to try it out, but there is always tomorrow. I probably won't be getting it as I need to trade the Sportster, and this guy wants to sell because he is buying a house.
It had a BRAG Club sticker on it also.
