I just installed a power commander for my Buell S3, 1999. It has a K&N Forcewinder intake and filter, and a Vance and Hines slip on. Otherwise, the bike is stock. Can anyone offer me a good initial map to start tuning? thank you. |

Check out their website - they have a whole bunch of maps for downloading, one should be pretty close to what you need. www.powercommander.com |

I did so, and uploaded one. However, it is not perfect, and I am still picking up low end backfiring, like the bike is running lean. Harley wants a lot of $$$ per hour to make it right, and I would like to get a little closer before I take it in and drop big bucks. By the way, I was pretty impressed at the change the PC made, given the radical cam and timing on the thumper. |

Every bike is different which is part of the problem. The only real way to get things right is to find a place where you can get it on a dyno. Check dynojet's website for local tuners that are trained with power commanders. |

Thanks again, and I will bite the big one and take it in...do your buells chew up rear tires? I only get about 2500 miles per dunlop 208. change the oil, change the rear tire. It's getting pretty expensive.....Also, every so often, the bike just decides to cough and sputter for about 10 seconds. I have been through the wiring harness and nothing is loose. It's like the ECU takes a 10 second break. Wierd. |

Buellmans3 Check the fault codes & see if U have a bad sensor. Could be a bad O2 or head temp sensor. They are not expensive & easy to change. My check engine lite was comming on & fault codes said both sensors were bad (engine stumbleing but only for a second or 2). My head temp sensor had been changed by dealership, under warrenty & I found it wasn't tight, which could have been the problem. U have to cut a slot in a deep 1/2" socket for the head temp sensor wire when installing it. Head temp sensor from Buell & O2 sensor (Bosch #12014 or AC Delco #AFS-20) from Pep Boys etc...Later,,, De |

Hello there. I checked and cleared all fault codes both before and after installing the PC. All was well. I replaced the O2 sensor when installing the power commander using the bosch unit. Appears to be operating fine and with no leaks, etc, and the PC recognized it being connected no problem. I never thought to check the head temp sensor, but I have also never messed with it or gotten any codes. Currently, the bike has repeating injector faulty codes, but this only started when the PC started over-riding the system. If I disconnect the PC, the codes and intermittent light go away. Two different harley mechanics from different dealers told me that this was a fact of life with the PC units, and there wasn't much I could do about it-so I live with it blinking at me intermittently. In any case, there you go. I have another question for you...when I am shifting the bike after the bike gets warm, it feels like the shift from second to third is tearing the tranny apart, so hard and rough. Someone told me that I should switch oils in the primary, any suggestions? |

Buellmans, I have the PC3 No codes, on injectors ever. I would be looking at the wiring of the pc3, it will likely get worse with time it could be an internal connection in the pc3 to the injectors harness, was the pc3 new or used? Check with PC see if they can test it for you Tranny oil YOYO, |
