I sitting here thinking about how much I hate having to deal with my local dealership, and how I think they screwed up the TPS reset, and had an Idea (this is usually when it gets scarry)

What if, I purchased a VDSTS unit, and then offered it out to members of Badweb for their use also? I figure that it would go something like this...

1. I purchase the unit
2. Offer it for "rent" to members here. I'm figuring on $20, to help offset the cost of the unit.
3. Set a deposit of $200 on the tool (In case someone decides to keep it)
4. I'll priority mail it to them, they use it, and send it back.
5. Give a return credit of $180 minus shipping (I think that it would fit into a priority flat-rate 4-buck box) once it's returned.
6. Send it out to the next guy.

(Handle it all through Paypal for ease)

I fugure all in all, it would cost us about 20 bucks a pop to use it, which is much cheaper than the 70 that my dealer charges, and it allows us to find out additional information.

If anyone has an interest in this, let me know.

Thanks,
Matt

It would work here at bad web. This tool is on top of my list but i might not get till winter too many other things going on. Personally I would love to rent one. I would only question people who didnt has active paypal accounts, for example I have over 100 verified paypal transactions. If something happened to the tool you could open a dispute with paypal. BUT not sure how paypal would look at someone returning you a damaged rented item. I think they only care if you got it back. I got first dibs on the rental! : )

Well, paypal doesn't have to be a requirement. Just figured that it might be easier for all involved. For those who do not have an account, I'm, sure we could work something out.

Are you talking about a laptop with the soft ware loaded, a palm pilot, or just software?

you are into several hundred dollars most likley there may be licence issues too.

Most new laptops Don't have serial port
lots of issues to consider.

New laptop? Never, just pick up a Panasonic CF-27 Toughbook. Ya know the MIL Spec ones. The last mark4(end of the line) are P3 - 500 models.

I think Matt is just buying the software and cable kit for a laptop. One would need a laptop with support for the dongle and or cables and thats it.

The average joe would have a laptop with a seriel port. Thats the best way to go. Who doesnt know someone with a old or new laptop?

No. Laptop's not included. I figure everybody who's posting here has a computer...Might need to move it into the garage for a couple of hours, but where there's a will, there's a way.

MMI Serial ports were removed from laptops by and large in about '03 I got mine referbished and paid nearly new price, '04

there is a usb port adapter that can be added American Sport Bike sells it,

I have the kit If your In Wilmington and need testing done Look me up...

Fire I think that you got it right, a lap top is not needed UNLESS you do some data logging, If you want to rent out the "tool" look into a plam pilot version

If I were a professional Tech I would use a plam so I could do the data logging on a test ride.
