Ok I have a new problem that I searched for and was curious to know what the opinions of others here on the board. The other day, I went to start my bike... did the usual sequence... i.e. the key to on, fuel pump ran, the ECM light came on and went off like normal... went to hit the starter button, and Nothing. checked the fueses they are all good. tried it again, nothing.. turned off the ignition and back on again, again nothing... hit the button a couple times and viola.. started. thoguht it was a fluke until this morning same scenario. I am curious to know what the heck it wrong. I am thinking that the starter is going out... but it runs fine when the engine has started. Any thoughts? bring em. If you think it is the starter do you know if Buells take the same starter as Sportsters? or do they take a higher torque starter? | ||

Does it have a side stand switch? Try starting it with the clutch pulled when it acts up............Charlie | ||

In the fuse block under the seat are little black diodes for the starter circuit. They can corrode and make poor/intermittent contact. Try removing and scrape any crud off the leads and reinstall. Make sure they go back in the same way as install, they are polarized and only pass current in one direction. My bike did something similar and it was the diodes. Good Luck Den | ||

BB: If all else checks out, look for the relay for the starter. I had a similar problem on my S1, and I think the X1's have the same relay set-up in their wiring. If it's bad, it'll give a very faint "click" when you hit the button, but nothing else will happen. You can pull it apart and clean the contacts, or you can replace it for about $15. rt | ||

Carry a spare relay. The starter relay and ign relay are the same. If it happens agian switch relays and if it cranks but don't start it is that relay. This has happened twice to me. also, make certain the starter switch is making good contact -- I've gotta celan mine (actually, all the handlebar switches) bout once a year, or they get flakey | ||

Well thanks to all.. I cleaned my relay, checked all the wires that spidy told me to check, cleaned my switch and one of those things worked... Danka Shein, I will owe you guys a round @ the next homecoming... |
