Do I need to remove the rocker covers?? In the FSM it says to remove Fuel Tank, then remove the sensor (basically) but the picture shows the head without the rocker covers. SO do I take them off or leave them on?? I THINK that it should be easy, but I just want to make sure before I get into it... Is there anything I should be aware of while doing it?? I didnt even bother with removing the tank.. Lift teh rubber boot, use a (3/8 I believe) wrench, remove sensor..replace... the wire hook-up is a quick connect on a lead like an O2 sensor.. If you can see the senor(on the left side, on the rear head), you shouldnt have to remove the tank... After verifying in some pics, no reason to remove anything but the sensor itself..you shold be able to get at it without issues.. Chase (Message edited by chasespeed on June 27, 2006) | ||

Thanks Chase. {edit} I just went out and looked, there is no way to get a wrench in there from the side. Looks like there is a bar right in the middle of the opening...I guess I will have to go in from the top. I was playing around with it, I think I will be able to get it out by lifting (not removing) the tank. Now I just need to make a sensor tool. Does anyone know it the size is 1/2 or 3/8 for sure. My sensor tool is just a long 3/8 drive socket, a big flathead screwdriver, and some channel lock pliers. Slip the socket over the sensor with the wire passing through the square end. Jam screwdriver in the square end avoiding the wire. Push down on screwdriver while turning with the pliers to remove sensor. Kurt | ||

you can fab a "proper" socket with a hack saw and a file tank off is the easy way | ||

Hmmmm...Is your engine temp sensor under the rocker box or next to the spark plug? When I replaced mine I didn't have to remove anything, let alone make a special tool. | ||

The early fuel injection bikes had the sensor out near the plug. The later ones placed it inside the ring formed by the rockerbox. |
