I changed my handlebars from S3T to S3 bars last night, went for a ride today (101* outside). I had a BIG hesitation after it reached OT...when I gave it gas. I could feel it when I gave it gas from a steady speed, or after slowing down for a corner and then getting on it. Could this be a TPS issue??

I am going to adjust the throttle cables, and reset the TPS tomorrow (?), but is there something else I should check??

Could this be a head temp sensor issue??

According to me Oil temp gauge the engine was running around 195* to 200*...although I figure that is about right with the outside temperature...any help is appreciated.

Make sure your fuel vent line isn't pinched...

So I THINK I got it fixed today...adjusted the throttle cables and reset the TPS. Went for a short ride, and NO hesitation. I will take it out tomorrow during the same heat just to make sure.

s3 when the sensor goes terminal it will probably code on you and run badly

DANGIT!!!! Got back from a little ride just now, it is Triple digits outside, when bike got to OT (180-190*) there was the hesitation...Where do I start??? What do I check first??? There was no check engine light, nothing like that. Engine knocked a little bit on WOT.

Any ideas?? HELP??!?!?!

So here is what I did after loggin off. Went to the garage and Reset the TPS (AGAIN) and reset the AFV, hoping/thinking that maybe that needs to be done. When my wife gets home I will take it for a freeway ride so that it can be adjusted to ....I will update when I get back.

Did you check the vent hose for clogs?

If that is free of clogs check the vent, it too may be plugged.

Just got back from my ride...went about 40 miles at speedsfrom 70 to 80 most of the way. Bike rode great, but still had hesitation. It only hesitated when opening up throttle quickly. I could do a ssssllllloooowwww roll on without any hesitation, but if I accelerated quickly there was a hesitation and then MOVIN. as for the vent hose, I didn't follow it all the way...but what I could see and feel did not looked pinched. I will go outside and double check it...

:Pulled vent line and TRIED to blow through it...No Good...OK, then I pulled the other end off of the canister...No clogs. Should I be able to blow into the canister?? Or what else do I look for??

Which canaster you talkin bout?

Perhaps your intake air temp sensor is messed up in some way?

Out of curiosity, I unplugged mine when my bike was running and it didn't turn on the engine light.


I did this because my engine light DID come on earlier and the trouble codes translated to intake temp sensor.
It turned out that my sensor was shorted to ground due to a chafed wire.

I bring this up because if it's unplugged, your engine wouldn't compensate for the air density of the hot day.

Spiderman - yes a Carbon Canister, this is a California Bike...If I blow through it when OFF the tank AND OFF the Canister, it blows FREELY. When I blow through it wehn it is only off of the TANK It doesn't blow (but I don't know if it is supposed to be like that OR if the canister can get clogged (?) I am going to switch to the canister I took off of my wifes sportster to see if I can blow through it...

Is there a routing diagram in the Serivce Manual that would show how it is routed if there is NO canister??? not that I would remove them or anything...

I am not too familare with the operation of the carbon can.

Try running the vent hose off the can for a few and if your problem is solved it was the can...

Carbon can has hoses from tank and air cleaner(not sure on FI bikes) and will have a vacuum line to it so if you remove the can be sure to plug that line,but vent line to tank must be left open.

Thanks FMJ...I am going to be following lines and figuring out where they go/come from tomorrow. Is the vacuum line the one that runs to the carb??? There are 2 lines, one to the tank (I will re-route under the bike), one to the carb (I guess this one gets plugged), and then there is a BIG tube coming off the other end of the can (I have to figure out where this one goes).

I suggest you go back and retrace your steps. If the problem was not there before you made your change then go through step by step what you did. You said that you changed the bars. If that is the ONLY thing you did, then you must have disturbed something in the disassembly and reassembly. Think about every part you loosened or took off or tugged on or changed its routing during your work. The answer should lie there.

Bookyoh, I did just that...In fact I just finished redoing everything I did. I also disconnected all of the emmisions stuff...Now I just gotta wait til this afternoon to go for another ride....
