any ideas on what to look for when i pull the primary cover? just started blowing oil all over the back of the bike out of that hose under the seat.. | ||

My X1 did that when my crankshaft seal went at 40,000 miles. I had the dealership fix it for me so I don't know if it was visible. | ||

seal is under the alternator rotor clutch and rotor must be pulled and old seal removed | ||

I had that happen when I accidentally crimped a hose shut and blocked off the breather vents. As soon as got the hose open the problem stopped. Jack | ||

i got the same symptom after getting a fair amount of water in the primary -- after it got done boiling all the spooge off, it was fine if it was me, I'd drain the tranny fluid, re-fill (being careful not to overfill) and try it out -- even if the seal IS blown, you got a ride outa the deal, and only spent enough for a quart of tranny fluid -- you could mebbe luck out, though, like I did | ||

Keep a close eye on your motor oil. If you are getting a lot of fluid from the primary vent because the crank seal is bad, it is because motor oil is displacing gear oil by pushing past the crankshaft seal. | ||

if you have an 02 Blast, I think they have the updated seal where a spring resides between lips which press up aginst the case on one side and the crank on the other. If this seal is bad, it will look "frayed" around the edges. If you have the older, solid (non spring) type seal, no description of failure is necessary, it will be obvious. |
