I was out riding at lunchtime and my bike was surging at stoplights like the clutch was engaged. At the next light it seemed ok and then bad again at the next light. Up and down shifts felt real hard and the clutch lever felt like it had a lot of play all of a sudden. Any ideas? Safe to ride home? Debris in the clutch pack maybe? Also.. I checked and adjusted the cable and it's getting chewed up pretty bad by the steering yoke. I seem to recall a service bulletin or guideline about clutch cable routing. Can anyone tell me where to find it? I have a 99 X1. Thanks Den

Sounds like your cable is on the way out...BE CAREFULL

Mine snapped while riding...

Go ahead and order one...I gto mine from DaveS...

Its not bad to replace..I did mine in about an hour...

Mine broke at the fitting that goes into the lever...snapped, strand by strand...

Thanks Chase, I checked the cable by the lever and it's ok. Now if I ONLY had a T27 down my shorts I could check the other end too... I wish I had used Allen screws but DaveS was so kind as to send me new T27 screws and washers last time, I don't even know if he charged me for them, the total bill was less than the shipping. I felt obliged to use them... I will take it easy on the ride home and pop off the derby cover and see what there is to see. Thanks! Den
