You can find it at any local hydroponics store (they're in the phone book).

The last time I bought any I got enough to repack two cans for about $16.

How tightly do you pack it in the muffler?

Just wondering. Have never repacked one, but have had the opportunity to observe metal fireplace chimney sections get packed with a similar material when I was product manager for the Heatilator Fireplace Company in the 1970's.

Found a nearby retail outlet that sells rock wool.
Gonna try it to see if it lasts better than glass [my muffler already sounds ratty from the last repack]
Any issues with rock wool?

I just pulled mine back off after using rock wool about a month ago. After only about 500 miles, my muffler had no trace of rock wool left in it. It was totally blown out. I just bought a repack kit from Al at American Sport Bike.

For a better alternative try ceramic fiber wool. Check your local industrial insulation supplier. I bought 4 - 5 lb. bags of the stuff for $20. The counter guy was more than willing to part with it because it had been sitting around for a while. It's good to about 3,000 deg.F. I repacked my race kit muffler with it 2K miles ago and it is still quiet. It comes loose so you have to leave the core in place and pack it around the center. It takes a while but the really deep throaty sound is worth the effort.

Thanks, I will look into it.
My muffler is blown out again.
