I am wondering if there is an "easy install" aftermarket tail section to replace stock '00 S3--something slimmer/smaller? Something that I can order and bolt on? I can't seem to find any and I don't know anything about cutting & grinding--not about to learn on my scoot!

Maybe a m2 tail might just bolt on. I can't help with the aftermarket except maybe American Sport Bike has something for you...

Has anybody done this, and if so, pics please! Even if it wasn't a "bolt on" job.

Trish, I am not positive, but I have seen pics of S3 sub frames and I have an M2, so I think this is right. You would have to cut off the rear most drop down peice of an S3 and then the two sub frames would be exactly the same, thus you could bolt right up the M2 section along with it's tailight/license plate bracket and seat. Worth looking into if you want to go that route....

The pre 99 tails are supposed to be interchangeable on the M2's, those early tails are pretty slick. If a Cyclone tail will fit your Thunderbolt it would be a good way to go. Check out Rex's bike on the m2 picture thread (black 97 m2)http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/47623/178449.html?1140487429. Maybe Bomber or Road Thing might know about the frames matching up...

Thanks for the tips, guys. I do like the look of Rex's bike--essentially that's what I'm looking to do. I have a buddy that has an M2, I'll have to do some comparing to see how complicated it looks.
