My X1 came with the carbon fiber undertail section. Looks nice and $$$$. But it has poor fitment. The bottom end (toward the front on the bike) just hang there.. It has about a 1/2 gap at the bottom. Which makes it look cheap.

I though about drilling holes into the undertail and tailsection then using some zip ties. But I am not sure if the CF would support that kind of stress.

Has anybody else had this problem?

If it fits so poorly, I would not waste my time with it.
I suggest you find a cheap original plaic one from ebay.
Then chop it with a hacksaw for great justice.

Or, you could get ahold of a piece or aluminium..and make an undertail...

Wes,
Not sure if the part in question is an A.S.B part or not. Does it have an American Sport Bike sticker on it on the back side? And more importantly, does it have a mid support that picks up the tail casting center web at the ECM mounting points? The A.S.B. part has a mid support, but the clones I've seen out there don't. If yours does not, I'd suggest bonding a bracket to the CF part that picks up that hard point.

If yours has that center support, it should be sufficient to support the part without a gap in the front, but you may need to do some edge trimming to make the lines right. A dremel tool with a drum sander attachment, a dust mask, safety glasses, and a bit of patience should enable you to make it so that there is no gap there at all.

Al

Al, I guess that my CF tail section is a copy. Its looks like nice quality. Just doesn't have that support brackt.

I'll see about bonding a brace. I assume a two part epoxy would work??
