What are your opinions on it. Im proficient at tuning FI, but have heard bad things about it, and good things. With minimal mods, i dont need anything Crazy indepth. I have a laptop and dyno here (well the dyno is like 5 minutes away) SO i can go ahead and tune it, but will it actually do anything for me? Ive got a vance and hines, K&N w velocity stack. figure i could lean it out a little bit on the bottom end, to get the response up a tad bit more. adn adjust accordingly on the rest of the power band. ANy input?

Im getting a great price by the way

As I understand it from Pammy
the PC does not really allow adjustment down low in the rev range, I have one and loaded the factory map for my setup, its ok

If the Dyno is a "steady state" unit with exhaust gas sniffer and is Free cool
A race ECM may be a good alternative,

I have the PC3 others have had some issues I have not.

I have a race ECM.

and from what i have been reading you can adjust the fuel mapping from 100 ro whatever RPM. i could be wrong of course. But for the price im getting it, it will be worth a tune a save on 110 and c16 gas for the drag strip lol. But yes, its a dyno with sniffer. But with teh performance o2 sensor the unit acts as a wideband, and with a laptop you get numbers to the tenth place

and remember, im not doing a preloaded MAP, im making a fresh one to get hte A.F where i want it. I never trust someone elses tune. EVERY bike is NEVER the same

If what i have been able to find out is correct
you cant re map the standard boxes after 99, and special VDO stuff is needed, the VDSTS is for codes, testing, TP zero, and AFV zero.
it won't remap an ECM.

Like you say the pc3 map is adjustable I don't have ready access to an advanced dyno to do steady state so its factory map or guess and the map exists for what I have done, If you look here, this is the data on just the stock ecm no pc3.

i could be wrong, But netiher of those (from what i read) mentioned the K&N PC, what i imaginet he PC does, is trick the ECU, into thinking its in a different condition than the actual ECU reads, if you are familiar with automotive tuning, kind of like an Apex SAFC, it tricks hte cars ECU into thinking its in a certain condition and adds fuel via timing, however the PC only adjusts fuel, so id imagine it sends a dummy signal to the ECU to do it. But i guess i will find out

Tsi:
there are 2 flavors of pc that are of interest here, Ver2 alters input signals, Ver 3 alters output signals, as you describe to add or remove fuel , K&N private labled a batch of these items
the 3 has heads that connect to the injectors, harness, TP, O2, and ground, You indicated that the ECM that you have could be re maped, that is a common misconseption.
I also agree with you about each machine should be tuned, I hope that this helped.

Has anyone had significant power increase with Power Commanders?

IMHO, from side by side stuff, with PC...

As I am concerned, the PC is only good, IF you go farther than the race ECM was desigened...head work, cams..overbore...etc...

No, the race ecm avail to you or me, cannot be reprogrammed, though there is/was one avail fro licensed racers(might only be for XB's though)..

Anyway, if you are plannign to do the above mods, by all means...

I am trying to snag one, or a TFI, for when I can afford to get some more work to mine...

BTW, Spyder, in these air cooled twins, as long as you are not fouling out plugs, you are not running too rich...these motors like to be a little rich..

1Wheel:
No not realy, the idea is that the pc is a work around for smog control engines that are running too lean

Spyder:
I agree with the Chase man here about the mixture
I did not no about the "racer varient" of the ECM
If you could lay hands on it My bet would be that its "spendy" assuming that you could find the mapping software

as an aside Our friends at Cycle Rama have a box for the "larger" mills that they use, call Pammy see if any one has bit the bullit and revamped their system, also try Nighrider.com, hi perf V2 site look into MAD EFI, Wayne Taylor I believe is who I corresponded with there, Its spendy and fuel only but it is completely tuneable..

OD.

TSI,

I have a 00 S3. As soon as I purchased it I installed the race kit which made some difference in performance. Shortly afterwards I purchased a PC III installed it and downloaded the map for the same with a race kit. I did notice a difference SOP Dyno, but decided to take it to someone I know with a Dynojet Dyno we custom mapped it there. I gained a few HP topside and throughout the spectrum the HP curve was elevated above the one with the downloaded map. As old dog days you can't adjust the F/A ratio below 3K, I believe it is, unless you have the HP O2 sensor. Which I do not. Nevertheless, I paid full price for the PCIII and got a good discount on the dyno custom mapping. Either way I belive they were my best dollar for dollar performance investment. I hope this helps with your decision. If you like I can send you my map and a copy of my dyno chart if you have similar equipment.

Brian, I also have a 00 S3, but with the up-graded o2 sensor for my power commander. Mine has been down since I learned the force pipe had to go. I now have a race system, most likely the A.S.B. version. Since I'll be starting from a neutral point when I zero the tps again, I think I'd like to take a look at your map if you'll share

Buellit,

Sure, if you like I will e-mail it and the dyno chart, But like I said I do not have the HP02 sensor. I tell you what it is like night and day the way it performs since I custom mapped mine, even without the HP02 sensor.

By the way I just wrecked my S3 two weeks ago with a front wheel lock up. I posted it as such. I will be out of business until I get it fixed. Mostly body work the fairing, gas tank and tail piece will have to be replaced. I will be stuck riding my Harley unitl then. Send me your e-mail address and I will send you the mapping data.
