Hey everyone I was just wondering how long you guys have gone before changing out your drive belt? I only have 10k miles but was just curious to hear any experiences with failures and how long people like to go especially since some of you really RIDE yours! Thanks, Lee

Had 70,000 miles on mine before changing it out.Was not really necessary but I was going to race it at Bonneville that year and wanted to be safe.

I had the rear isolators replaced around 20,000 miles and did the belt also, just because....

My first one lasted to 35K and the dealership replaced it before my warantee ran out. My second one popped on the way to work after another 17K or so. (that was the day we used the tree to get it out of my friend's truck. See profile pic)

Mine snapped at 14k. I'm thinking it sucked up a rock.

I have 26K on mine so far. It is to my understanding that the new belts for the Uly, tested to be stronger, will also fit tubers. Same # of teeth.

Sweet guys thanks for the confidence. With only 10k I guess I'm good to go. My only worry was that I'm running an 88 inch motor and didn't know if that would have an effect on belt life.

37K on my S1W, 27K on my S3. They aren't racking up much miles these days with the Uly and XB-S in the shop, though.

Don't forget to run it "scary loose"
It should be able to touch the top of the swingarm.
I have a nice polished area to prove it.

MAN! I knew I would jynx myself.
I lost my belt on the way home at only 15K miles.
No evidence of rock damage.

I just pinged DaveS about a Ulysses belt.
I'll keep you all up to date on the cost and outcome.

I just ordered a new belt from DaveS. It wasn't the ULYbelt. I think he said it was for the normal XB.

Anyways, it was under $140.

My 2001 M2 has 24k. Never removed guards and never let anyone change my tires. Still insecure about brakage from all the stories I heard when I first discovered BADWEB back in late 2001.

I'd have more milage but my riding is split between the M2 and the 800 Vulcan. The Vulcan is history as soon as that XB12STs comes out. I got the Vulcan for two-up riding. The feet forward ergos are a pain in the back.

I just got my belt last night. It took me 1.5 hours to put on.
The XB belt is much more heavy than my old "sportster" belt. It sticks out a little on the rear pulley if you look at it from the side.

More stiff than the old belt too. just feels stronger.

XB belt is a muck better belt IMO. It not only "feels" stronger, but it is also "feels" more flexible. My first belt snapped at 12K, but I was running it to factory spec and I am a big heavy person. I run it very loose now, so loose that I was getting an occasional slip under big power (wheelies) so I tightened it a bit.

I can assure you, your belt will always break as soon as you reassemble your swingarm without replacing it.
