Well, actually, there are a few chopper and custom sites on the web where you can do just that.  I don't have the links handy, but have visited a few of them when I was looking for more aggressive ways to sell the M2 some time back.  |

Hey,everyone don't get me wrong I own 4 buells. I was explaining the mindset that I have seen. Not what I agree with. 2 of mine are former road race bikes that I am putting back to street use. The 2 S2t's I have because they in my mind are the best all around bikes made hands down. We all want to stand out from the crowd. Buell does that to a tee.

I've sent more than 1 email to ebay folks who are selling parts left over from making a chopper.
The less tubers there are the more the remaining ones will bring.
That's probably easier for those who already have their S2(s) to accept. Can you allow one more price dip for me to pick one up at a price my wife can accept?
After that, price doesn't matter, I ain't sellin'! |

Thanks for the feedback on the numbers, guys. Jim's, then is not relevant to my argument. 1313, I'm still being dense, or persistant. Your Signature plate says #1313. Is that also the last digits of the serial number?
Does anyone understand the point I am trying to resolve? It relates to the two series of serial numbers and the plates claim of number such of so many. |

I'm more confused than before, eric. Not trying to be a wisea*s, but that second sentence doesn't even make sense.
What are the "two series of serial numbers" that you refer to?
The engine has an abbreviated number from the frame number. The signature series numbers are the state designator (either "49" or "CA" preceding the signature series#) and then the final four numerals of your machine's vin, hence, Firemanjim's own bike is either 490036 or else CA0036. BOTH numbers exist, out there.
Is that the dualistic digit issue you sp}eak of? |

He refers to the early and late 1995 vin #'s.The early ones started with 1B9RT and the later ones with 4MZRT... .My early S-2 had numbers ending in 3133258 and my later 1995 had the 3000036.So you can see where the confusion comes in.Asked Erik at a Brag gig one time and he explained that they never expected to build as many as they did and ran out of first series numbers.This is all from vin on frame head not signature plate series #'s. |

When Buell moved into the Woodcrafters building, the plan was to build 300 S-2s.
The moment word got out about a "hot rod Harley", orders rolled int and Buell moved to 2715, into the 5,000 SF building that was soon expanded to 10,000SF.

I believe the book Court is referring to is the yet unwritten book he is planning. Based on Court's busy schedule who knows when it will be started.
However I think Court may need a fact-checker...
The moment word got out about a "hot rod Harley", orders rolled int and Buell moved to 2715, into the 5,000 SF building that was soon expanded to 10,000SF.
The first Buell building built in East Troy was actually 2815 Meyer Lane (which later became Buell Drive) and it was approximately 40,000 sq. ft. with Buell occupying 30,000 and Packline sub-leasing the other 10,000. The space occupied by Packline was soon taken over, however. This is still the current factory. The square footage Court is referring to could have been in the planning stages, during which I was bouncing back and forth between college and Buell. I'll have to dig out the (old style print type) pictures I took of the Yellow S2 that was on the cover of Cycle World that show the steel purlin's of the current factory (when construction began) in the background...

Hmmn, some real serial number gurus hanging around here, eh?
Okay, just for laughs: My signature series package includes a timing cover bearing the numbers "95s249 1021/1399". Near as I can tell, the "1021" portion refers to the vin no.
Q: Is the "1399" portion of the number meant to indicate it's order in production?
Too much time on my hands.... |

To further clarify:
95s2 - '95 S2 motorcycle
49 - 49 state bike, not a Cali bike
and yes, #1021 of 1399 bikes built with 49 state emissions. |

Firemanjim - that's one of the things I'm working on. I don't like that either, but I'm not sure how to fix it. Glitch is going to walk me through the set-up and find out why. This is why I haven't transferred the other threads yet.
I'm still learning the backside of BadWeB. This is my first page set-up. I'm happy its come this far without too many issues. |

its time to wake this thread back up.
so back to VIN #'s..... ive been very curious about what is up with the VIN on my bike.. i have a 96 S2 and the last digits of my VIN is xxxxxxxxxx3000001. one would be led to believe that this was like the first one off the line in 96. ive never owned a vehicle where the vin number looks like #1 off the line! |
