Well, I wrecked my X1. Here are some pics of the damage. One of the pics that concerns me is the pic of the oil filter. In the accident the frame moved back far enough to puncture it. This worries me as far as being able to rebuild her. I really hope I will be able to. She is the first thing I have ever owned. It's funny how one can become attached to these machines. Well I hope you are ok! As far asthe insurance company goes, I would guess that bike is going to get scrapped. To much damage, so as Steve Miller would say... "Go on take the money and run...". If the motor is still good you may be able to purchase it back for a small fee and sell the motor, tail section, swingarm, and some other parts to make a few extra bucks towards a new bike. | ||

I'm doing pretty well. My helmet, gloves and jacket saved me. The only thing that took a beating(other then my bike) are my legs. I have to go see the eye doc tomorrow b/c my left eye is still blurry from banging my head on the ground. I was slowing down for a corner and slid on some gravel, that put me into the front of a on coming car. From the angle that I hit the car I went to the side of it and slid down a gravel road.  | ||

Damn,Ron,you OK?? Common for the oil filter to get tagged like that.Frame flexes back and bolt punctures the filter,frame goes back into place.Though your frame don't look so good.Buy it back cheap as you can and shop eBay.That stuff shows up all the time. | ||

Glad you're (kinda) OK, kid! That flat spot on your frame near the hose clamp in your pic #6 doesn't look good. Same for the forks. That front wheel doesn't look straight, either, don't know if it's worth repairing or not. I'm with FMJ, buy it back as cheap as you can and shop ebay for new parts if you want to resuscitate it. But you might get off for less $$ just buying a new (used) one, especially if you can realize any profits from the sale of the salvageble parts. rt | ||

I bought an M2 on ebay, everything except the motor. I don't have it here yet...so you could buy it from me and ship it to you, or get me a good price on a motor...glad you are okay. rex | ||

My S3T was "totaled" with a lot less damage than that. Everything that has a scratch will be listed as needing replaced at shop prices. Like FMJ noted, it looks like the frame flexed and bounced back into shape. The trellis has a "memory", but the tube will have a crease that can't be repaired. The frame it probably gone. My agent told me that salvage value is 40% of market value, so the buyback won't be cheap. Then again, the motor seems to be getting ~$1500 or more on ebay so it may be worth buying back and parting out. Noone will fault you for taking the $$$ and buying a new one. | ||

Glad you're ok after that description. Good thing you're getting your eyes checked out. Make sure they do a field of vision test as well as the basics. Don't be too impatient - took a couple of months before I felt my eyesight was back to normal after my last get-off. Heal well. Henrik | ||

glad you are ok, to bad about the gravel. when i wrecked the s1, it wasn't that bad and i spent about 2grand (pre ebay) to put it right. looks like about 3grand(ebay)to do yours. salvage value approx1500 subtracted from total payoff. try to talk the adjuster into not totalling to keep from salvage title problems. good project while you heal up. good luck and glad you're still with us, tim | ||

Woah, that looks really bad, it's amazing to hear you are still in one piece. I think the bike is totaled sorry to say. I really like armor jackets and pants, I never had to test them but I think they can prevent a lot of injuries. The good thing is that bikes are coming down in price the next couple months and the bad thing is you lost your companion and may miss the last of the riding season. My brother recently bought a supreme totally cherry 99X1 with a lot of motor work and every upgrade for $4,500. In winter you may be able to get a good deal. The motor should be worth at least $1,500 on ebay, good luck, glad to hear you are still in one piece. Den | ||

right now tubers can be had for a low price on ebay and this web site. a s1w in Ohio for like 4g and a 2002 s3t with race kit for 5g's. might be wise to just start with a good solid frame/ complete bike | ||

I remember seeing an 95 S2T for $3000 in Milwaukee. So very much wish I could have. Good thing / bad thing that the tubers are so "cheap". | ||

Kid- first, It's GREAT that you're in one piece. don't hassle the blurry vision, a good shot to the face often leaves me with blurry vision, and it goes away after a few days. your bike's a total. i worked in motorcycle service as a BMW factory bodyshop manager, and insurance was 99% of our game. good news- you get dibs on the buyback, and pulling that frame true should be a cinch. relax. finally, Big Ups on taking responsibility for the drop. it happens. you're human. thanks for not saying "my BIKE slid", "my BIKE lost control", etc. Ultimately, we are the brain and intent of our beasts. I appreciate anyone who takes that responsibility and the ensuing accountability thereafter. You'll be fine. you need anything you PM me through this board, you hear me? | ||

That is really bad about your bike, good thing your ok, the headshot is no big deal deal, you have a minor concussion give it a few days to settle If it doesn't settle out after about 10 days get to a doctor, especially if you get bad headaches. Buy the bike back from your insurance company, but deal, don't take the first offer,cause their only alternative is a salvage pool which will be a lot less than the standard insurance buy back they always tell you about. Insurance companies have more money than any other industry in the free world and they rape the average citizen to do it. Play hardball to get a better buy back. I've done this twice and got a lot better deal than was first offered, especially if YOU have the bike. | ||

Thanks for all the concern. I really do appreciate all the advice. It's much better then the "You should stop riding" advice I have been given. I went to the eye doc today. She didn't see any tears on my retinea. Sore bones is one thing but a bad eye had me worried. I'm still trying to figure where all my cuts came from. I have a weird rash on the inner part of my thigh. Only thing I can think of, is that it might be from the windscreen. I found it in one piece with the screws attached to it. Only thing I have left to really deal with is the ticket I got for "Careless Driving". I should be able to lawyer up and get it dropped. I also need to take some pics of the street. It's a big horse shoe, on the other side of shoe their is a 10mph sign, on the side I wrecked, the sign is way in the back covered by trees. I'm just happy that I will be able to get back in the saddle. Thanks again, all your advice and offers really do mean a lot. Wow...that's somes serious damage - I'm glad you're ok. Last time I rashed a bike like that a truck was in the process of dropping rock on me and it was a 6 month old BMW...which was totaled. So I'd imagine that yours will be totaled as well. Take the money and run. Like their riders, motorcycles have a lifespan...sounds like it is time to move on. I'll add this: it's also time for a new helmet. The KBC served its purpose, but is gone. I started riding with a $75 KBC, but have sinced moved up to a $600 Schuberth S1. I'd recommend upgrading to a higher quality helmet when you replace it as well... Good luck! | ||

Just as a note, in the state of Illinois, you are not allowed to buy backa totaled bike that is less than 6 years old. It is state law, only a rebuilder, with paper work from the state is allowed to purchase totaled or salavged bikes and fix them for the road In other words, please check your laws first and make sure you can do this just an FYI, and yes i have first hand experience R | ||

For example- in my county you get a ticket. two options plead guilty or NOT guilty. Not guilty has two options- 1 a bench trial with 1 judge or a juror trial. Now my county is soo back logged and the DA doesn't have the time to deal with "small" cases some things never go to court or can take up to two years. Now - a good lawyer might be able to sue the county or state which ever road you were own. The speed limit sign should be able to be seen. Thus you had no idea that you need to lower your speed until -well you crashed. Had the sign been properly maintained then you would have slowed down and not crashed. what was the last speed limit sign? | ||

i know alot about insurance . Basically you need to prove you were right and something else was wrong. Your picture of the sign is golden and is a basis for lawsuit against the town or city. Sorry havent read the whole thred but I would argue that if indeed any said other party was involved in this crash , just the fact that the sign was covered by trees is an old time no no non by any municiple and should be a major factore for your insurance company to jump on . Hopefully they will and get involved sueing the county. If not you will have to onn your own. Your insurance company is obligated to fixing your vehicle only , but in these cases with negligence by the county then they might take more aggresive steps to reinbursing themselves at least. Your x1 is screwed , I can believe mine survived a 55 miles spill into a counbty ditch as well as it did only cost me 1000 bucks, no police report and no insurance company involved. In your case I would have been crying for the insurance company. Anyway the sign is enough to sway things your way I can tell you for sure . I once ran a weak stop sign , I truely didnt see it , looked back to road and saw a cop on a harley pulling me over. I told the cop I have been rideing for over a decade and did not see the sign. He let me go on a warning just like any brother should Now there you go man push the town or county in the wrong corner for not taking care of thier roadas. I dont see this kinda thing around where i live !!!!!!!!!!!! It is the cause of this accident wheather you believe it or not. What about the guy that has to go down that road later. Should he suffer the same negligence by the county???????/ | ||

although as a mechanic I would trash the wheel , and send the frame to http://www.framestraightsystem.com/ if a new front end didnt put it back on the road, And believe me the frame kissing the oilfilter aint no thing. Mine goes down the road hands free and handles just as it always did. My bike took an unusuall hit of force it fliped and the major force came down on my tail section/ then top of wheel. This pushed on the shock and bent the lower shock bolt/ that actaully bent out about a inch of crankcase aluminum. Easy fix had it welded up. Plus the 1/8 hole into my case leaking oil.  Now welders dont like this stuff so you got to make them do it, they think its going to leak and blowout gaskets , a possibilty but not in my case . I am good as new.
