Hi all, 1st time poster long time lurker. Just got back from the dealership after hearing some bad news. After changing a broken throttle cable earlier in the week, I thought I some how had managed to screw up the TPS setting. No big deal 30 min. at the dealer and back on the road right? After about 45 min. of looking over my adjustments and hooking and and unhooking the scan tool. Service manager comes out with this LOOK on his face. We have have all seen this look(cue dramatic music). He sits me down in the reception area, clearly uncomfortable with what he has to tell me. "Sir, It's your computer, Its not communicating with ours and it's not going to last much longer". After exchanging dialog back and forth for about 10 min. I tell him to order the replacement, and I'll chance making the trip home without walking. After searching the site and not coming up with any good matches. The ECM has only been on the bike 5 months, even though I bought it 2 years ago. I ask you have you heard anything like this, or are they taking me for a ride?

Andrew:
there could be other issues relating to no comms to the ecm, including wiring and connector problems, inspect the connectors and harness your self if you have the old ecm have them try it while you watch, I won't tell you that the com ports on this kind of equipment never go south but the wiring and connectors usually go first, there will be a minimum of 2 on the bike that can go wrong( 1 at the ecm, 1 under the seat where the scan tool hooks up )
A harness and connector inspection comes before changing expensive parts,
Do you live any where near Wilmington NC ? I have the pc setup and would be willing to help you if you can get here.
If you replace the unit ask for the old one see what they do when you ask ........

2 dead voltage regulators hummm could be but check that wiring first.

Thanks for the input Jim. I always get my used parts back any time I go to the dealer. I will take my stock ECM with me when the new one shows up, that way there will be 3 ECMS on hand. Thanks for the offer on the pc setup, but alas I live outside of Memphis. I just needed to vent a little, its been a long week.

I think that won't be needed with the new ecm on hand, if the old one is "gettin' stupid" it will be appearent as soon as the new one is in.
I had to offer, another thought I wonder if the cartridge and cable were seated well in the scan tool ?
In your profile you indicate that you had 2 Vr failures that has a small impact on at least my thinking, although I would have expected either errors to pop up or a complete failure if the system went into drastic over voltage conditions.
any way I under stand needing to vent some days it seems that we all "work in a vacuum"
