Folks,

I had a '96 S1 that was stolen and crashed in...'98 I think. I bought the parts back off storage and have had them ever since.

I was running an aftermarket pipe which is still OK, and am considering putting in on the '97 S3 I just scored and did a motor rebuild on. BUT I can't for the life of me remember which model pipe this was, purchased back in '98.

It was black, the "cannister" below was integrated with the header pipes (no junction at all) and it featured sections of pipe that were bigger and smaller to match the pulse timing of the original S1 cam. It was loud as hell, the only "silencer" was an insert plate at an angle with holes on it and it fell off at one point never to be seen again : ).

I recall it seemed to work pretty well power-wise.

WHAT THE HELL PIPE IS THAT?

: )

The S3 now has a stock header pipe with V&H cannister. The motor mods include an Axtell/NRHS 1250 kit, forged race pistons with a Thunderstorm dome pattern, XB '04 heads cut for the T-storm pattern pistons and with an adapter to let 'em fit a tube-frame, Mikuni HRS42 carb. I'm warned by NRHS that the stock header pipe will hold this motor back pretty hard now. I've got the old "mystery pipe" in storage and I want to know what it is so I can ask questions...

Help?

Sounds like a KT pipe to me. No longer made and highly sought after.

Which model jet did they use to coat it? I can see how leaving it right behind a 747 motor would make it black pronto.

Yeah, that's the booger. Although I don't remember mine having such a nice heat shield...

Is my memory correct in that these were heavily tuned for the original S1 cams?
