Hey guys,

I'm in the process of mounting a 99s3 tank on my 99x1, and was hoping someone might be able to share some info about the s3 tank bracket - Specifically, I'm looking to find out how far apart the bolt holes are to see if there's any way to get it to work with an x1 frame.

I'm pretty much resigned to the fact that I'll have to make a custom bracket, but it would be good to know if I could use the s3 bracket as a starting point, or even better, to see if it will work out of the box. Call it the triumph of hope over experience

A picture of the bracket would be lovely as well, if anyone happens to have one.

I'm confused. Only one bolt holds my tank in place. It's in back, covered by the seat. In front is a tab that slips under a bar. I.d go snap some pics if it wasn't for the baby in my lap and a departure commitment only 20 minutes away. I'll try later....

Easy_r - No worries, I thought that may be the case given the shape of the s3 tank. The x1 has two bolts, so I was just kinda hoping the s3 might be similar.

Crazyhorse - Thanks man, I've actually already got the tank on my x1, just trying to get my head around the best way to secure it and still have a functioning seat hold-down tab. I think I may go with grinding the x1 bracket to clear the mounting point of the s3 tank, but it looks like I'd need to remove quite a bit of material to make this work which always brings up the question of structural integrity. It would be a bad day indeed if that sucker ended up failing in the twisties.

Thanks fellas

Good luck. I love the looks of the S3 tank, manta ray...one of the best looking tanks on the market, I think, other than some of the early model triumphs, nortons, and cbx bikes. REX

put up some photos of the bike, when it is done.

What about the seat? The curvy s3 tank with the box x1 seat..?

I too love the manta ray tank-- flows with the frame. 1998 S1W all white is one of the best looking bikes from any factory!

Yeah, the seat is another issue - Leaves a pretty good gap between the front of the seat and the tank, about an inch, so I need to come up with something to fill it and improve the visual 'flow'. I can live with the gap for a while, but it's definitely on the to-do list.
