Test ride shows some improvement and the need to tune the bike alot more. Check engine light came on by the time I reached the gas station. Probably because the bike is running way lean.

Sure would liketo know what codes the bike really has a needs to be solved!

I'm using a older HP laptop but with the latest windows system. The scan software uses a serial port i think it called DB9 and I have to use a USB adaptor (tried two different kinds) also tried numerous com port settings. The USB adaptor works just fine for the PowerCommander.

Techno guy was supposed to call me today..

Time to rant----

HD and buell sure have jacked things up with all of this computer bull . Sure its nice to have when it works. Sure its nice to be rich and just let the dealer fix the bike. I know that the larger portion of HD/Buell riders make probably double what I make. But why do those people buy the bike? Because they want the biker image -- people like my dad and all of the old guys. The kind of guys that can smell the exhaust and say "change the plugs". The current HD/Buell owners have to talk about powercommader and check engine light codes. Go ahead and ask one of the older biker guys what an o2 sensor is? its something on a car!

Not the vision I have when I think of HD or Buell. My 1992 Sportster never gave me a problem nor did the 98 s1w. I rode a fancy $$$$ BMW bike and even it had the fuel injection surge problem.

I guess if HD and Buell are not going to make/sell what I want. I'll make it myself.

hp makes a good box, the system upgrade??
to say,

2000 home(ME)the underpinnings are Win 98 and there were some major issues with com time outs there particularly with older programs been there done that.
As I understand it 2000 pro is based on NT you know, (Nice Try, Next Time, Not Today)it can be cranky at times but seems to work with Most recent programs ok. ( it usually barks if it does not like some thing )

XP is far from perfect but both versions are fairly stable. XP has a compatibility setting If turned on in some instances this helps
I have 1 industrial programming package for Programmable logic controllers if the compatibility is not set up it will not work correctly and its a "windows app"

You may know this if so please dis-reguard,
If you are on XP or 2k

1. right click the application icon and select properties,
2. if compatibility mode is available it will show up as a tab under properties, there are several options try the win 95 option, then the 98 option.

as allways speed parity etc must be set correctly

2000 pro does not by default display the compatibility mode
if compatibility is not switched on or does not come up pm me I will check out the micro soft site and see if the adder is still there,
I sent the link to the PLC manufactuers national sales agent when they could not resolve the problem
One of my co workers stumbled on compatibility,
I had to find out how to turn it on, it WAS on microsofts site.

at the risk of sounding trite, try using the code read back feature described in the earlier posted links, the tps would likely be there with other things that may have been out of whack
after having gone through some of what you have and I am itchin to know what the ECM reads back,

granted having the wunder box to read adjust and reset the ECM would be nice.
My .02$ sad that you spent that hard earned money on a poorly documented and tested product
I hope that they make good for you.

According to the service manual it takes 50 start and un cycles for the ECU to erase old codes. So if I did fix anything it will take 47 more starts on the bike to erase the old codes.

sure 30.00 bucks for the first time. Then if they come back I have to take a 30min trip and sit at the dealer and drop another 30.00. thats 60.00 and if it want the TPS reset add another 50.00. Its addsup way to quick.

I'm either going to sell the bike or put a carb on it.

i think we miss cued i was wondering what codes did you have stored and current

I rechecked your posts on this subject the original sets of errors were ....

o2 sensor, possible ground issue, or out of range.
temp sensor(s), inlet and engine? you were replacing et sensor,
( i could not read my new one with my digital multi meter either old one shorted out)
with the changes is the IAT still present?
injectors, the fault may have been because of the faulty signal to the pc3 cutting the pulses off.
after fixing the wiring did the A/F readings change with changing the pc3 map or remain the same... ie no change?

If you decide to carb your bike i would be interested in some of your take offs, for spares
this might soften the hit you have taken.

btw please keep us posted on the techno stuff, I would like to have a WORKING software kit that allows me to troubleshoot my sled but I will not buy stuff from manufactures that do not stand behind their products and your experience here would be helpful

Actually Techno guy gave me his phone number and he did try and call me. Just gotta find more time. Work, school, gym, yard etc etc. Techno will stand behind the prodcut.

o2 sensor should never throw a code. Becuase the power commander sends the ECU a set voltage to read perfect. could be an old code.

I change the engine temp sensor.

Air/fuel gauge didn't read any different after trouble shooting and cleaning stuff up.

Rode the bike this morning for about 25 miles. no check engine light! It does idle high then it will drop to normall and then it might die. It also still runs rich at idle. That tells me the air/fuel valve and TPS needs to be adjusted. Plus in neutral when revving the bike up with quick blips on the throttle it will blow some light grey smoke. Running WAY to rich and can smell it.

Kinda dangerous as hell riding the bike and watching the A/F gauge, tach, and trying to guess how much throttle given. Then marking the PC MAP that was printed and tapped to the fuel tank. But the A/F gauge sure does show lean and rich spots.

Converting to a Carb. I've found mukuni carbs and Dyna igntions on ebay. total cost about 500.00 bucks. Sorta OK. I know I can trace the wires and do a great job installing it. Starter, running lights, and ignition is easy.

Not sure if I can keep tach, speedo, and idiot lights working. Or how to elimante the fuel pump.

Wes I wonder if the tps wire was screwed up the last time a tps zero was done (bad tps zero?)

what happens when you zero out the pc3?

when you off the ecm you loose the tach feed,
the fuel pump control goes away too, the low fuel light switch is built into the pump.
I think you could pick off the tach from the ignition module from the #1 cylinder pulse, to the #1 coil, assuming that the module does not provide it. I bet you can reuse the sender but you will have to change the "cup"
a Cyclone petcock may fill one hole in the tank the pump mounts through 2 i never found any thing that I was comfortable with to fill the hole.
On the idiot lights , high beam, Oil, turns, neutral etc. no sweat, I don't think the speedo will be much of an issue either it's not tied into the ECM, some where I read that some one kept the ecm just did away with the fuel control, leaving the ignition, perhaps an option?

sure was hoping that you could beat the problem
