I have a 2000 X1 I bought used a couple of months ago. I have the old style muffler support bracket and a Wileyco exhaust. In my repair manual it shows two (rubber?) front muffler mounts, they are on page 2-87 item 19. I don"t have these and my exhaust rattles because of it. I have tried a couple of temp fixes just so I can ride for now but they only work for a week or so.

In my parts manual it shows the newer Y shaped header support. Do they still give you this kit as a free upgrade or would I have to pay for it after this long? Does the dealer still sell parts for the old style support? If I cant get that one, does anyone still have the two rubber pieces from the old style muffler/header support that they would be willing to sell me.

You definitely will have to buy the upgrade kit if you want one. Evidently it was never a "recall" but was sometimes installed free as a "goodwill" upgrade. It's an easy changeout and I don't believe it's very expensive. I paid ~$15 for a used Y-mount from a BadWeb member about a year ago.

I would not fool around with trying to fix the old one. It WILL fail eventually and probably at the worst possible time.

You'll have to buy the Y-mount, new or used (bought mine used as it was back ordered when I was having my bike fixed during those days). American Sport Bike used to sell some non-rubber replacements for those muffler bracket isolators, a decent dealership should be able to still get the original ones (maybe).

If you get the new Y-mount be sure to also get the new regulator mount, and be very carefull changing it all since the bolt holding the mount also attaches the front of the undershock eyelet. And when you do change it also be very carefull to get a good grounding connection between the regulator bracket and the engine cases (I think there's a service bulletin on the site here someplace about this procedure).

I have not confirmed it, but I was told that you couldn't get the rubber isolators from Buell any more...anyone know differently? But the urethane isolators we've got work better anyway.

But the Exhaust hanger retrofit kit works best of all. It includes the y hanger and the regulator bracket (and a stock muffler bracket that most will throw away : ) ) For a while, you couldn't buy these, but they are available now and are the best choice for most. I had polished aluminum L brackets on both my S3 and S1W, but have replaced both with the inverted Y bracket. Doesn't look as cool but works better.

I am not sure what I want to do right now. It is basically a money thing. Bushing $25 or Y bracket kit $95. I am a newcomer to the Buell side so what kind of problems were there with the old style L bracket?

Ratchet -- the problem is that it will break. Not if, but when, pretty much (although I'm sure there are a few souls who are pure of heart that have been runnin the L bracket for ever with no problems).

Breakage will lead to busted muffler mounts, likely busted header moutning studs (in the head, front, generally), and the heartbreak of psoriasis

undertand the $$ thing, but it's $100 now, or buncha troubles later

Al's bushings help a lot, so if you're really strapped, go thaat route, and start skippin lunch til you can spring for the Y mount.

Paul, take a look at my fix for some of the muffler bracket problems in the Knowledge Vault, Exhaust,headers, muffler section at the top of the page. This really worked for me and I have had no problems since. Requires minor adapting. Bob T.

If you have the old WileyCo system you definately want the "Y" bracket setup. Actually, you should get it anyway. $95 is a small price comapared to a new exhaust!
