Folks, I've found a new (never sold) 2001 M2L. No miles. I can get it for about $7800 out the door. The dealer is not sure HD/Buell will still warranty the bike as it is so old. I don't care for the XB Buells but I am concerned about this bikes age. Should I buy it? What do ya think? | ||

Cliff, The M2's seem to be one of the best-liked Buell models. The trouble is, that bike will be worth just about $5k as soon as it leaves the showroom. If it doesn't have full warranty I wouldn't consider it at all. There are lots of low mileage M2's on ebay, Cycle Trader, etc. for $5k and less. If you really want a new one and you can get the full warranty (and maybe a few other things thrown in) it may be worth considering. Otherwise I'd search for a deal on a lightly used one. A year and a half ago I bought a 2001 Cyclone brand new. They actually insisted I get the extended warranty on top of the factory one (which was still valid). I paid 7,200 out the door and that includes the $1,000 extended warranty and they took in my Blast which was WAY upside down as far as what I owed on it compared to its worth. The insurance is cheaper (for me at least) on an M2 compared to an XB too. I love my bike, I am glad I bought it, and would buy it again tomorrow. But now I want an XB  | ||

if the bike has no miles then the age shouldn't be a problem (as long as the rubber stuff is still good)... though i agree that $7800 is a bit steep for stock... i bought my 97 M2 in 2002... i paid $6500, with a bunch of bells and whistles already installed, and i still think i paid more than i should have... but it was calling my name and i couldn't say no! and after 22,200 miles it's still going strong and i've never had any regrets! | ||

I would counter them on the price... You can get some very nice used ones for alot less. If you do buy it. I would start the bike, and do a burnout in the parking lot till the rockerbox gasket goes and have them replaced right away. Also, swap the speed sensors for a new one with the filter built in, it could save your speedometer! | ||

If you're not getting a factory warranty, the dealer should sell the bike for less than a premium price. | ||

If the bike was not yet titled it should still have the factory warr. At lest that is how it was dicribed to me when I bought my X1. 01 model bought in 04. Since my bike never was titled it still had the one year warr. My dealer was very clear on that. I got my X1 for 6000 a year ago. You might want to play with them a little more. Al | ||

that price is nuts! At best a 01 M2 is worth about $5500 even if it is brand new. I can't believe that dealer is still asking full retail on a 4 year old bike. No wonder he still has it. | ||

Yeah, while the M2 is a nice scooter, the asking price is, IMHO, too dear to be taken seriously. There is a fellow in our hellbuellies group (here in Central Texas) that paid under $6000 for his M2 new. Tube frame Buells are an absolute bargain for the buyer--look around or negotiate further with that dealer--I'm sure a more favorable deal is in your future. | ||

You know, the weird thing is there seem to be quite a few "new old stock" Buell tubers still languishing at dealers. Spidey made up a list just over a year ago and IIRC there were close to 100 of them still around. Evidently most of these dealers are still expecting to be paid full MSRP for these 3-5 year old bikes. How can they afford to (and why would they want to) sit on stock for that long? Seems crazy from a business standpoint. | ||

With the popularity of the M2 (and all carbed Buells) as a donor bike for the custom kits out there, it'll just be a matter of time before $7800 is going to seem cheap. | ||

Cliff, I got 30,000+ miles on my '01 M2. So far the most fun bike I've ever owned. Yes I've had a few miner gliches but for the right price life is worth it.(The life you like to live that is) Is $7800 to much, maybe but if your out to ride and don't care about possible resale like many HD owners(I can feel the bashing) than by all means. If it is at a Buell dealership Yes they should still be warranty on it. Even if not any HD can put there own aftermarket? style warranty on it. My friend but a used 2000 from a dealer in Rockford last fall and they gave him one year on it. Hasn't needed it so far! Anyway thats my 2 cents worth. Ryan | ||

A new 2002 x1 WHITE lightning cost the dealer 7000 bucks So tell them they are still trying to make a profit on an old motorcycle, no miles or not they are asking too much trying to find that guy that will pay that price. Up here in Canada!!!!! I paid $9999.00 for my 1998 S1 back in 2001. There are still tube frame models sitting on the floors here too. | ||

I don't recall M2's ever selling for $7,800!!! Wasn't the price tag $6,899 in 2001? I'm pretty sure it was. Price on a four year old bike, gathering dust should be a lot less. That's probably why it's still on the floor, IMHO that dealer is either a fool for asking it, or takes you for one, please don't pay that much. Also the bike is brand new, pretty sure the factory would stand behind their warranty. I think Sandblast got a decent deal, with the extended warranty. If you can't get in for 'round 7K with an extended warranty you are probably paying too much. Doesn't that big dealership in TX still have a handful of new tube framed bikes? It's true, an untitled bike will still have the 1 year factory warranty, though I agree the price might seem a bit steep. If you have the VIN, PM me and I can verify that it has never been titled and the warranty is in tact. See about a counter offer on the price though. | ||

cyclone is best buell ever made, had 2 of 'em. price is way too high though. factory warranty IS still in force as long as bike was never titled. insist on 2 year ext warranty at that price. also, as stated before, it's been sitting for a longtime...gaskets will be dry and bike may be prone to leaks, especially at rockers and primary  | ||

The centerstand works well enough for general maintanence, but don't ever trust it to support your bike if you want to take both tires off. If you raise the front end with another jack underneath the front shock eye, the bike becomes very unstable on the stand, especially if you have a full tank. If you have to try it, make sure you take the tank off or make sure it's empty before you jack the front up. With a full 5 gallon tank and the rear wheel off, the center of gravity is actually forward of the front shock eye and the bike will lift off the centerstand! |
