howdy fellow buellers, i desperately need to change my oil before i ride my bike again. from what i understand the amsoil oil filter is the best out there, anybody have any part#s for that filter to replace stock m2 filter? and or, any suggestions for the best oil filter available? some say the ford car filter is tops, some say k&n. i saw a report on badweb here of some independent oil filter tests stating that the amsoil filter is tops, there are several amsoil dealers in the area (southeastern mass), i am however open to suggestions! thanks

you need to be real careful with auto filters! the pressure relief valve is set at a different pressure and can add to engine failure, at least as i've heard it! stick to filters recommended for motorcycle engines and oil pressures.

well, after lots of phone calls i have discovered that of the amsoil dealers in my area, availability of the filters and even the oil is lacking. i have perused the kv and discovered that a high quality oil can be had readily available by way of the local wally world MOBIL1. seems to be very popular amongst buellers. therefore, i am going to order a half a dozen amsoil filters for future use, but will pick up a stock filter from the local hd dealer and use the mobil 1 this time. anybody have a part# for the stock oil filter and do they only come in chrome? i would prefer black but as i stated earlier i am desperate and would use any color at this point! thanks again friends!

Ford FL-1A works great too. Comes in many brands. Turns black with a spray bomb. Or pink. Or green.

63805-80A is the stock filter number (and it is black). There is a premium filter that offers finer filtration, but I'll need to reference some info at the dealership tomorrow if you can hold out for a few hours.

I would personally stick with stock, lots of R&D spent on these at the motor company.

Also, H-D has just lengthened the service intervals on the Syn3 oil:

Crankcase - initial change @ 1,000 miles, then every 5,000 miles afterward.
Primary/Trans - initial change @ 1,000 miles, then every 10,000 miles afterward.

Just food for thought.
