I have a 96 s1 with a supertrapp pipe and a hsr42 carb and a buddy just bought a 2000 completely stock m2. I can't get over how different this bike is from mine. Seat is definitely more comfortable, power delivery is different, just a different machine. Still think my s1 is more of a fun bike, although the m2 seems better for long distance rides.

Is the stock M2 slower or faster than your S1?

low rpms the m2 seems soft compared to the s1 but comes alive at higher rpms, is it faster ? hard to tell, seems like it revs freer than the s1 but that could be because it's softer on bottom and sort of comes on the pipe later where as the s1 hits right off the bottom, only a trip to the local drag strip will tell.

see archives for more details

S-1 cams are more top end cams, M-2 stock cams are more mid range torque. M-2 is more of a standard type seating bike, vrs. S-1. I love my M-2. Very comfortable, and I could ride all day on it....Still handles great. I put S-1 cams, thunderstorm heads and pistons, and a six speed tranny...runs fantastic! REX

With the right exhaust system a Buell with the longer duration cam will trounce one with the stock sporty cam at all rpm's. Only the bikes with the stock muffler have that tremendous midrange dip and only then does the short duration cam make more low end power.
